Manny Diaz as HC

Exactly the same thing we were saying 3 years ago. When do we get to stop saying "maybe we'll be relevant in 2-3 years"?

10 wins and in the ACCCG is relevant. A good start will be when we actually have 85 scholarship players, which we don’t and a solid group of leadership players on both sides of the ball, which we don’t.

I’m hopeful if Banda goes, Runph gets all the DBs and Richt does the smart thing and hires an OC or at minimum a passing game coordinator with that position.

But we need more players, more experience and more leaders on offense too.

“…waste of bandwidth” yet here we are. LOL. SMH.

Building. Yes, that word.

Just like at the end of my post, it is MY OPINION that Richt will have Miami in the same interminable loop of “bust” and “nearly there” seasons that he demonstrated at UGA. I do not believe Richt can bring Miami to the CFP (which means Miami will always be second tier for top S FL recruits). I once hoped he could (though I had my doubts), now I’m fairly confident he can’t.

Y’all seem to believe that 10 win seasons should suffice, and that’s fine, but my question for both of you: “do you believe Richt can get Miami to the CFP?”

Heckin no

Completely agree. Diaz isn’t stuck in “old ways”. He’s adapted his defenses over the years, ie running some 3-4, introducing the striker to be on the field more than half the time and I think he’ll be wise in choosing an OC.

And another thing Diaz probably realize to is you hand the reigns over to the DC and OC and have your input and not try to be the position coach! Over see the whole program and just put your finishing touch on the different positions if needed!!

I was all for Manny staying at UM. He installed the right kind of defense and he gets Miami.

But it will be interesting to see what he does up north. He has been a DC with access to great athletes at places like Miami and Texas. He couldn't get it done at Texas even with all the athletes and resources they had. How well will he do as the head of a program that isn't known for its ability to attract top talent?

The last 4 Temple head coaches have gone on to Power 5 head coaching jobs. It will be interesting to see if he maintains that trend. If he doesn't, it won't be a good look.

People like to talk about the D-Line, but the secret to his defense is the safety play. The better the Safeties play, the better the defense is. He had the 11th ranked defense at Texas in 2012 because he had all-american safety Kenny Vaccaro back there. After Kenny graduated, Manny was forced to change how his DB's played, AND I think he started 2 freshman safeties. This year we had extremely solid safety play PLUS a great pass rush so it makes sense that we were a top 5 defense.

If the goal is getting to 85 scholarship players that truly belong at Miami, we're going the wrong way.

I'm with you, I hope Richt wises up and gets an OC, but now he's also got to retool the D at the same time.

We had a moment for a few weeks when we were relevant last year, then reality came crashing down upon us. This is not a relevant program right now. We are a laughing stock. Anyone who doesn't see that is every bit as delusional as UFelon fans.
