EDIT **I am talking SPECIFICALLY about QB coaching, and his development/regression under this coaching regime, I am not speaking positive or negative about Malik**

Now I want to start this off by saying I'm not QB expert in the slightest. This is something I observed and felt like there was some truth to. If I'm wrong please tell me. But I was observing Maliks game play against Duke in 2015 under the dark James Coley days, prior to Mark & Jon Richts arrival. I understand this is a long time ago, not trying to live in the past, just trying to have a good discussion. I usually don't post but I felt like this warranted a discussion.

This game Malik goes 20-29 (69% & 272 yards, 2 TDs 1 INT) against #22 Duke on the road in 2015, starting in replace of Kaaya (who if you recall was knocked out by Clemson). His rating of 163 & 69% completion is the highest he's ever had against a power five team. The only game in his career that he performed higher, was Toledo last season.

To add to that it I will remind you all it was his first career start and he had only thrown 28 passes up to this point.

The first throw of the game he stands in the endzone and delivers a perfect sideline throw to Waters.

Now I will say, Coley threw about 10000x bubble screens, which obviously helped his stats, but below I highlighted the times of the more impressive or unimpressive throws.

2:15 hits Waters again on a sideline post route perfect throw.
2:28 hits Njoku straight up the middle right over the DBs head.
2:55 hits Waters on a deep go on the sideline for a touchdown. Lead the WR.
3:27 Misses Waters on a overthrow by a yard for a touchdown on a deep post route.
5:15 Herndon accross the middle right over the LBs.
5:25 Hits Coley deep right into his hands, wasn't a perfect throw or good lead, but the ball was placed only where Coley could catch it.
5:50 Throws INT right to the safety, Awful read and underthrown.
6:10 Tipped pass on an out, was accurate but should've never been thrown.
6:53 Throws on a rollout Coley, not a good throw but still caught.
7:34 20 Yard TD to Coley right in the corner of the endzone. Great catch by Coley.
8:05 Throws a very impressive backshoulder throw to Scott. Put the ball only where Scott could make a play. Most impressive throw of the game in my opinion.

The ball placement in this game is significantly better than what we've seen recently from Rosier. In general his throws were significantly more accurate when he utilized the full on baseball windup, and his accuracy appears to have deteriorated the more his mechanics have been tweaked to throw the ball like a QB. Regardless of that you don't see him taking three steps before he throws a ball down the field deep. He is utilizing his back football on the deep throws, but is that really a issue if you're hitting the deep throws? In this game you don't see WRs having to do backflips & constant dives to make a catch. Obviously there is some issue sort of issue whether its QB coaching or just Malik himself, but it's hard to believe a QB just randomly regresses to the extent we've seen now.

Our QB coach was a quality control assistant for his daddy for a year. Then he was a quality control assistant at Buffalo Bills for a year.

He has no experience, does not know what he’s doing, and shouldn’t be anything more than a quality control assistant here.

He is in way over his head, and daddy won’t accept that.

We need good offensive minds and coaches on this staff.

No, He’s doing the same thing then as he does now. Only difference is our O-line made the checks to the protection and they bumped up is percentage with short little throws...and even then he wasn’t that accurate.

Op you take the qb with the stats who can't win.ill take the qb without the stats who wins.that's what we need around here .11 guys on defense 11 guy s on offense 11guys on special teams focusing on one thing winning a freak in game.quit trying to justify a loss with the stat sheet.

I specifically remember the WR's making all kids of big plays for him during that ballgame.

I put the exact times of the completions. Outside the corner TD and maybe 1 other, I don't really see any throws you wouldn't expect your WR to catch.

Never mentioned the loss, didn't mention any stats past the year 2015, didn't mention wins and losses, didn't mention picking QBs, was mainly talking about QB coaching and throws in one specific game. Don't know what you on about.

Time to start winning instead of comparing stats from 3 yrs ago.not a knock on you most fans like me are tired of that old used car salesman pitch.you put mag wheels leather seats, latest radio technology in a pinto sedan.all those upgrades can't change the fact the sedan is still a pinto.

After the rewatch, barely anything has changed.
The difference are he currently does 5 step drops and his feet are better, his eyes are better and he has more zip on his throws. All of these are marginal improvements.
One thing I'd like to say it, the offense looks eerily similar. The Tail swing/QB draw RPO is there, and the 31 Slant screen IZ RPO also there. Albeit, these are some of the most basic RPOs out there and I say UW use it vs Auburn this weekend.
The completion percentage was inflated due to competition, barely any of those balls were contested and they were all either passes below 7 yards or deep balls.

Just so surprised, he looks the same. I'd just like to see what someone else can do to be honest, he's an average QB. If he didn't have stud Recs this would be a rough year.

Finally, my opinion is CMR is putting Malik in a position where he has to do very little. I.e., his throws are either incompletions or caught by the Rec. or Fake IZ with a slant behind the LB. Haven't seen CMR ask him to do much. Intermediate routes are where its tough and routes over the middle, same with PA from under center. None of those three he does because CMR knows he is limited.

Good observation. I’m impressed you went back into 2015 to analyze this lol I think we can all agree Jon Richt is criminally under qualified to be the quarterback coach at the University of Miami and it might be affected Malik Rosier, who wasn’t considered to be a potential starting power 5 QB coming out of hs.

Agree on the zip, but overall you think the throwing ability has improved now compared to than? Interesting, didn't expect that take, I felt his ball placement was significantly better, despite the poor mechanics back then. Also thought he shortened up his throwing motion some nowadays.

But 100% agree on the offense.
