Making plays and margin for error

I think there have been 20 reasons (some more true than others) on why we lost tonight. There is overreaction, wait and see and we are going to run the table takes aplenty. I think the biggest disappointment for me is the combo of not making plays when they are there and our margin for error. Make no mistake, less talented teams than us have played more talented teams than this gator team and had less opportunity handed to them and were able to win.

My biggest red flag right now is that our margin for error is still so razor thin. It feels like we are fighting and treading water just to stay in games that we should be rolling in. An average team turns this UF implosion into a shellacking. Over the last 4(14?) years, we have been unable to make plays to win games or bury our opponent when other teams have no problem doing it in similar circumstances. It doesn’t look like it has changed with this staff. We have to find ways to make plays and put ours guys in better situations so we are not on such thin margins for error. I didn’t see that tonight and that’s the most frustrating

Loser mentality.

Some like to call it “realism”.

It’s just fear manifest as self fulfilling prophecy.

Has to be purged and eradicated from coaches, players, AND fans.

The team is scrubbing off the stench of loser juice like tomato juice on skunk spray.

There is a hesitancy and lack of confidence, even when the team fights to the end.

Takes a couple things to overcome it.

1. Great coaching and strategy that accounts for ALL the strengths AND weaknesses of the team. Why were our struggling tackles left on islands all night when we KNEW what we were up against? There is still a lack of flexibility and feeling out in the new system. Some naivety is in play as well.

2. Better players. But 1 helps get better players because they are confident they will be used properly. Still have much to prove here.

3. Increased emphasis on basic fundamentals and discipline. Mental mistakes and penalties are inexcusable. Special teams is still messy but Patke is still given that responsibility? Hmmm?

Enos’ system can work with faster decision making from Jarren, but Enos still should have been better.

We lost our poise and got sloppy. We could have had a paradigm shifting win, instead we got a what if loss. It could fuel a run to the acc title game.

Pass rush was disappointing and we gifted them points. Turds still only got 24.

Jarren looked good. Got to get rid of the ball and be more decisive though.

There is a lot to be optimistic about.

Tackles and special teams. Fix it and it’s a new ball game. The other components are in place.

Us and UF have almost identical talent, so games like that, especially at a neutral site you'd expect it to be a fine line between winning/losing, and that's what it was.

And when it's UF, FSU, etc, that's what its supposed to be.

If we're playing these types of games vs GT, Duke, etc, then that's troubling even if we pull it out IMO, because those we should win easily
