Lou Hedley - Punting discussion

Looked up who this backup was and he's from suburban Chicago. But yea they said Lou got hurt during warmups.

I was so out of it I didn’t even notice

I was at the game. From a quick glance the freshman kid looks similar to Hedley (roughly the same size and build). After the first punt I wondered why he didn't do the Auzzie style punt. Then on the second punt I realized it was not Hedley. The kid took for-freaking-EVER to get the ball away. He hit some big time punts but needs to improve his release time or we're gonna be in a world of hurt if/when this kid becomes the full time punter.

For the record, the kid averaged 47.3 yards per punt, which would make him a top-20 punter in D1 football. He had a long of 57 yards and put two inside the 20 yard line. Surrendered only 1 return yard.

Not a bad debut.
Kid was booming them for sure, like you said none of it matters if he cant get them off quicker during ACC play..

Anyone know why he did not punt during the MTSU game?

The freshman kid hit some booming punts but man did he take a lot of time getting the ball away. If he continues to punt at that pace we will get some blocked. Big leg though.

Best guess -
Mario knows that as long as Gattis is running the offense, UM is going to punt so much that Hedley's leg will get tired. Forward thinking to break in a new punter to give Hedley a breather.

Poor kid missed out on having a punt downed at the one due to someone lining up incorrectly too.

Not that stats matter much in a loss—especially that kind of loss—but for the backup kid to go in there and do his job was good to see.

Wish everyone on the team was as prepared for the moment as he was.

You just jinxed him. A couple shanks coming next game. thanks

In warm weather the sack can stick to the leg, and after awhile it will actually fuse to the leg if not properly washed and rung out. Hedley is not used to this humidity, and it was raining. My best guess is because of his high leg extension, part of his scrotal bag sheered off and stuck to his inner thigh. Think of how a piece of dried bark comes off a tree. A mix of warm dishwater and turpentine will separate the baggal tissue from the leg. Ray Guy used to talk about this and wore a cormerant feathered garter belt type contraption so the satchel would rest comfortablly but not adhere to the leg i read.

We should have Hutchinson on schools next year right? How much eligibility left? Was nice to see him do so well...That answers a question moving forward.
