As the Canes & Mario look to continue to build the program and take us to more national titles we have strong depth and recruiting at most positions, especially defensive end, but Linebacker doesn't seem to have the proven depth, only on paper. Raul Aguirre & Malik Bryant came in together, same build at 6'2/240, but Bryant moved to DE where his length and size isn't ideal especially given the talent on roster. I imagine Bryant as a LB in a 3-4 defense, but would it make sense to shift him back to LB for next year?

Aguirre is a lock & bonner seems likely. Kellen wiley has excellent frame, had to add some size but the staff seems high on him, but again no proven production. We lost Adarius hayes for obvious reasons & cam pruitt seems undersized, more of a strong safety

Could Bryant make the shift back & does it make sense?

Linebacker
Mo Toure- asking for another year
Chase - asking for another year
Popo
Wiley
Washington if he stays
Bonnor
Pruitt
Campbell may start out at OLB
Edwards
Busch (not an EE)

DE
Blount (3)
McConathy (3)
Scroggins (2)
Lowe (2)
Charles (1)
Lafayette (1)
Lightfoot (3)
Pickett (3)

Clearly another Starter type at DE would allow us to move Blount and rotate more. LB- We could be returning 3 of 4 that play most downs. I think we are ok but would love an elite one.

I doubt it. There's a reason he's not playing LB when our need is greater than our need at DE. He likely doesn't have the diagnostic/reaction skills to play LB and at 20 y.o.

He was called a LB coming out of H.S. but his role in H.S. was more of a DE.

I hate taking undersized DEs (whether you call them LB or not) and hoping they can play LB. They usually can't.

Toure getting another year would be huge. It's clear that he has finally gotten closer to 100% from that ACL.

Chase Smith is a Hurricane, but it's time he moves on. Go professional in something else and enjoy being an alumni

Disagree. We have ton of scholarships available. Chase smith has played solid ball. Great depth. Best players gonna play. If he wants to stay you keep
Him around. If Wiley Bonner is better he will play less

competition is a beautiful thing. Reps need to be earned.

It's money better allocated elsewhere.

I would disagree on the solid play part. He has been serviceable on occasion, but has been more of a liability than a net positive
