OK, so I watched the game while on press row for the Canelo-GGG III fight (yeah, real snoozer, BTW) and yeah, this one really frustrates me
UM out-gained, out-first-downed, out-possessed them, and somehow only scored 9 points.
Our guys lost bottom line, but I dont think we lost to the better team
I know a lot has been repeated already, but I came away thinking a few things:
- our defense can be really good(especially our front four). Still had a few containment busts, and our LB's missed a few tackles that moved the chains. But overall, if we get this effort every game-- while improving at the same time -- I think Miami will be fine
- alright, offense, the Red Zone was the Dead Zone. Im baffled by the play calling of Gattis. Sorry, but I dont want any type of runs (short of maybe a quarterback draw) for TVD. That was mind-boggling to me.
- This offense does not have anyone that scares anyone on the outside, and this problem will rise up again throughout the season. I kept thinking for as long as Miami kept running the ball that eventually they would set up shots and hit them. Never happened. The reality is that this can only be fixed through recruiting.
- Key play early, bubble screen to Brashard, if his fellow WR's get just decent blocks, it's an 8-10 yard gain at the least. Instead, it's stuffed and helps kill an early scoring drive. Again, little things are big. They all matter.
- Why was Thad Franklin not given more carries in the second half?
- TVD... right now, he's suspect. Nothing like a first rounder. Now, I dont know if it's the system, the players around him... but he missed some key throws (that deep crosser to Redding, which would've gone for 40 yards was a killer). I wonder, was Lashlee a better fit, and should we do a bit of tempo to get him more comfortable.. He had a lot of clean pockets and simply didn't get the ball where it was needed.
- I can go on, but Im tired and I have to hit the hay. We have another scrimmage next week, a bye week and then ACC play. Lets hope these things are cleaned up. I have some real questions and concerns about Gattis, I can't lie. Anyways, hope you guys are having a good weekend...
- But yeah, I'm hurt dawg....
-Overall, I loved our guys effort. It was the execution and efficiency that left a lot to be desired.
