Let us assume we will beat Pitt next Friday. Going in to the Clemson game we should still be ranked #3 in rankings. Let's say Bama beats auburn in iron bowl game. They will remain #1 . Clemson beats S Carolina they stay at #3 . In the Mia-Clemson game,!if we win we are in playoffs. If we lose by 1 point to Clemson we will not make playoffs. The powers that chose the final four want an excuse to keep us out of the dance. A 1 point loss to Clemson and a 11-1 record will not be good enough for people on selection board. Too early to know who would jump us in final 4 but I would not be shocked if a 2 loss Ohio state makes final 4. They are an establishment team and we are considered as an outsider. Therefore we must remain undefeated and win next 2 games. Of course a loss to Pitt and a win against Clemson will also make us out of playoffs. They don't want us in playoffs unless we have a clean slate.

All we want is the W!

But since this is a football forum made for discussing this type of thing, I'll give it a crack:

In theory we are in if we lose a close game to Clemson and:

1.) Bama wins out and either Wisconsin or Oklahoma lose 1 more

2.) Auburn wins out and both Wisconsin and Oklahoma lose 1 more.

We could possibly make it to the playoffs regardless of where we are ranked heading to Clemson depending on the other teams. If Oklahoma loses one more their 2 loses would be worse, Wisconsin lose they would be below us, Georgia lose they would be below us.

So if Alabama wins out them and Clemson would be #1 and 2. We would need Wisconsin or Oklahoma at the minimum to lose. Then it would be up to the committee to say who of the 1 loss and 2 loss teams should be where. It would be between Georgia (2 loss), Oklahoma (2 loss), Wisconsin (1 loss), and Ohio State (2 loss).

Now a problem could be had if Auburn beats Bama and then beats Georgia. Because the SEC champion is in no matter what. Then a 1 loss Alabama would probably make it over us if Wisconsin or Oklahoma lose.

Of course you have to take into consideration that the Hate is real against Miami and they will downplay our schedule and the fact that we won at home.

Sorry, a 2 loss Ohio state makes playoffs, if we lose 1 game.

I could very well see that, depends on how much they value the Big 10 champion title. But in reality if you look at their schedule and not just losing to Iowa but being blown out. If we lose a close one to Clemson (#2 team in the country) and having that be our only loss, it should be us.

But yes, knowing the hate it seems like Oklahoma would also have to lose so we and Ohio State both make the playoffs

We are IN the playoff even with a close to Clemson in my opinion IF

Bama wins out

And Ohio State wins out

Ohio State / Penn State scenario last year proved 100% that one loss team gets IN over 2 loss championship team

I have only missed a handful of home games since 1983 and attended over 30 road games. I know my team. This team is NOT a National championship team. Don't get yourself all excited. We have come amazingly far with a little luck and a fantastic coaching staff. I am thrilled we are going to Charlotte and i will be there but beating the defending National champs is too much for this OL. Beating VT,FSU and winning the Coastal is enough for me. A big Bowl game is gonna be fun too. Come on down

None of that is happening. After championship weekend we will be number 1. Auburn will run the table and make it to #2 or 3. OU will win out and be #2 or 3. We will win out, leaving it to Bama or Wisconsin/ Ohio St for #4 . And will also be our opponent in the playoff

There would be a media **** storm if a 1 win team got picked over for a 2 win team. Probably would lead to an expanded format. The Buckeyes got blown out and would have another loss to a playoff team. Miami would have a loss to a playoff team.

How do you explain total domination of teams with better talent than the teams we struggled with. I'm sorry I do not believe any of what you're saying. This team will not fold. And like I said I remember the 2002 Ohio St team, squeaking out a bunch of victories. The rest is history. This team has played 9 weeks in a row, and coming off two prime time charged games. The only objective after Notre Dame is win by any means or margin. Like I said, we can battle who ever you put on the field. It was the same talk after UNC and we dismantle two pretty good teams.

Until the team loses, there is no reason to believe they should.

That being said, we won't make the playoffs if we lose to Clemson by one point.

This is the same committee that put us behind a one loss Clemson, whose loss is a team we beat.

I don't expect any favors from the Playoff Committee, despite having one of the best strength of schedules in the country.

When they put us #3 , they showed their hand.

Beat Clemson and we can give the middle finger because it won't matter.
