Length of the HC Search

I wouldn't be surprised if we've finalized our top three candidates by this time next week. The dead period ends on January 10, and we've got to move fast to salvage whatever class we're going to have. We've also got to prevent any of our major guys from transferring, and the New HC will need to put together a staff quick.

Our last two searches were as follows:

1) Golden was hired 14 days after Randy got fired.
2) Golden was fired mid-season, but the official search started after the 2015 regular season. Richt was hired 7 days after our regular-season finale against Pitt.

We should know by the week of January 7 who our next HC is.

Hopefully they keep the big picture in mind and don't really worry about the short term. No reason to rush this hire just to keep a recruiting class together or build one. Little chance for any of the new coaches to build meaningful relationships in the next 5 weeks anyway. This class is shot so let's make the right long-term hire.
 
Even if they have a home run hire, if it’s too late it will set them back a whole year. They need to do this in a timely manner and they know it.
 
You can salvage the class to some degree and take a bit long to hire the HC if you keep some of the good assistants/recruiters. Not sure bringing in someone who's going to clean house is the best idea.
