At George Mason & Bowling Green Larranaga was known for his scramble defense in the half court & his 3-2 camouflage defense in the 3/4 court. (the 3-2 defense is essentially a 1-2-2 zone where you guard the passing lanes not the ball).

Has Larranaga run these much while here at Miami?

He hasn't, largely because of the personnel. The first two years, we saw mostly straight up man-to-man because we had a lot of slow-footed bigs who would not have been suited for the scramble. This year, though we are far more athletic, we are incredibly thin, so we are not running the aggressive defense due to both fatigue and foul concerns. I haven't seen us do much in the 3/4 court either, though we seem to be playing a bit more zone in the 1/2 court than we did last year.

Lol. Yeah nobody at the u pays nearly enough attention to hoops. Which is a disappointment. But if they did they would see how laranaga is struggling due to players not scheme.

we have really 7 guys on this team. Next year we will be incredibly deep and athletic, look for us to run scramble far more then

A coach tailoring his style to the personnel? What's that?

Yup. Was wondering why he wasn't implementing his style as much.. and the reason is a tribute to his success (adjusting his scheme to his talent).

Coach L is one of the best in the biz. And a very positive, players coach on top of that.
