Article posted over on Canesport about this kid out of John Curtis, LA. Seems he is open, considering Miami and Laron Byrd is his cousin. Probably a longshot against LSU, but worth keeping an eye on.

If he and Smothers both want in, take both. Smith is more of a pass rusher than a true linebacker at this point, and Smothers would only be here for 2 years. We need to replenish depth, you can't turn away talent like this.

McCray too.

All his film is of him with his hand in the dirt, def not a true LB, IMO we only needed one OLB/DE hybrid and we got the one most of us wanted in Mike Smith.

IMO McCray's ship should have been saved for Smothers or a player like Kenny Young.

I like bringing in LBs who have actually played LB before, its 10 times harder than DE.

You need to have it between the ears to be a successful LB and need to be able to read and react instantly, those are hard things to pick up if you have never done it before.

Like I said in another thread, who is the last DE we recruited to play LB(who's only game experience and film is at DE) who actually ended up being worth a ****?

MRob comes to mind, we wasted his career trying to make him a LB instead of just bulking him up(he was too small for DE) to be a monster rush end.

I like the Mike Smith pick up and hopefully we bulk him up and keep him at DE, or an OLB speed rush specialist, I just don't want to see him in situations where he needs to cover a RB or TE or be a full time LB.

BTW I doubt we get Kenny Young.
