Amazing how schools know a thing or two about re-gaining lost glory. Bill Snyder manages to get rehired at Kansas State and promptly manages to drop UM one game when UM had real talent, and the second destroys UM after KS coaches figured what UM would do. Louisville got lucky with Charles Strong, but not so immediately Petrino's departure. What do they do? They go back to the sure thing: Petrino! It's obvious that the []_[] has had a storied past, but it also has had an ugly past that almost dropped Football after lots of years of mediocrity. It took former Dolphins coach to resurrect it, and that former coach Butch Davis to give the []_[] her greatest glory!

The reality is that a leader [and the school's Board] or an astute AD often wants to be looked at as a genius in selecting a new coach. More often than not, they'd like to shy away from a known entity or a proven coach since that would signify that any future championship and glory would be a given since the selected new coach was already a known commodity in the winning world. You see UiF AD selecting Muschump because if that works out, then the AD [and its leader] is a genius, but more times than not selecting a coach is really a crapshoot for these Genius seekers. Ron Zook was solid, but couldn't master much in terms of winning the big ones, and there was no genius point given to the decision maker/s pulling the switch. Urban Myer was a good one already who did lots with LESS, so having more at UiF and all that Florida speed & athleticism, he took them to the top. AD Foley thought that the UiF was already such a good thing, that anybody could come in and make it happen...and so Muschump.

Unlike many on this Board, I CAN NOT root against this []_[]. Therefore, I hope & pray that UM wins out, and perhaps split a pair with FSU (regular season and ACC title game) and goes to a BCS bowl, and then Al Golden becomes a lil commodity now in the Big Ten and the world of college Football, and zappo! gets snatched up by Kansas or one of those teams looking of new coaches...He leaves the U with his entire Temple defensive staff, D'Onofrio, Paul Williams http://www.owlsports.com/coaches.aspx?path=football&rc=678, DL coach Jethro Franklin http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2011/01/new-dl-coach-jethro-franklin-speaks.html and now, we're needing of a new coach!!! Golden leaves the []_[] even before the bowl game! ...to get a head start on his new gig to establish his version of the Patterno brand of winning Football... ok, good luck Al & crew

Now the question is: Shall we trust the current AD and Shalala (She STILL here) to be the genius and pick the next coach? They did pick up & coming Al Golden since he had done a reclamation job at Temple! They passed up Dan Mullen...and they laughed at Jon Gruden coming to the []_[] when he wanted his own brother [the current Washington Skins Head Coach] to be his coach-in-waiting and take over upon his possible departure, and they blew off many other known coaches to finally get their man: Al Golden and his Temple defensive crew! Now, in need of a coach after Al's departure, can Butch be Kansas State's Bill Snyder to the []_[] ?

butch is not som x and o magician. it took him 5 years to build the team back.

through 4 years his teams weren't much different than Goldens.

Hum, good point, Butch is the exact same coach TODAY as he was through his first "4 years" at the U.

And I'm sure you'd agree that we probably should find another up and comer for our next HC gig.

After all, we got up & comer and Broyles top Coach Assistant winner Onion to take over the reins, before that, we got "keeper" Clapper, and of course, we end up with that 500-page binder specialist with his "We can fix this"... so no, no, Butch would add another 4 years to the perpetual rebuilding cycle of the []_[].

Re-hired Coach Bill Snyder defeats Oklahoma Sooners & Stoops...

If Al Golden won't be here next year, not sure whether the U needs to select the next coach in a crapshoot...Butch is able and available.

Butch had 35 scholarship reductions, moron. In 1997, against the Semenholes, he took the field with 51 players suited up. Jeez...
