Just played for Natty and haven't even scratched the surface...NEED SPEED

I agree 100%, we need elite speed at the skill positions. Our starting WRS couldn’t get much separation this season. And we won in spite of that.

@DMoney There are 64 starting NFL WRs and 32 starting RBs and not one is from The U. That needs to change. Do people forget we had a former Cane score at least 1 NFL TD for 149 consecutive weeks. It ran from Week 15 of the 2002 NFL season through Week 10 of the 2011 season (spanning about 9 years and involving over 600 total touchdowns from 34 different Hurricanes alumni). The streak ended in Week 11 of 2011.

We need to return to getting elite skill players and I’m confident Mario will get it done.
Only problem! is that there isn't enough elite to go around ! Depending on what your criteria is for elite?

Pretty sure Fletch will score a bunch of NFL TDs, so there is that on it's way.

Every national title team has had a speed element to it plain and simple. To minimize this is just foolish really. No other way to put it. You can have football players with a speed element to their game. That's nothing new if you've followed Miami for more than 1 season. You need explosive players on your team.

Recruiting staff is putting a lot of emphasis on track times, so they're aware that they need more speed.

The CB's are fine IMO.
Lucas is a mid-10 in the 100m and a staff member told me he'll likely be sub-4.4 in the forty. OJ has enough speed and is sticky.

Where we're gonna see an infusion of speed/athleticism going forward is at LB and outside WR. We desperately need a guy who can take the top off of a defense to compliment Malachi in the slot.

The LB's that were here already aren't really the archetype Hetherman is looking for, although I think he did a phenomenal job coaching them up, you won't see any guys like Popo going forward.

RB's rarely go 1st round anymore. You'll see one or at most two a year, sometimes none, and that's it.

Miami's roster has plenty of speed and athleticism at RB and CB. Against Indiana in the 1st half I think Heatherman was worried about our CB's giving up a big play because of the injuries and Lucas suspension and over corrected having them 8 yards off. IU's receivers just aren't fast enough to justify that. Miami's CB's, especially with you look at the depth with Lucas, OJ, Brown, O'connor, Jaboree, are on par with any in CFB right now.

I think WR has been corrected with the three, assuming Barkate is coming, coming in the portal and Josh Moore and Wingo. But yeah outside of Toney the WR's taking most of the reps were all kind of "possession receivers" last year.

I understand what the OP is saying but out of curiosity what are the speeds of the IU WR's, RB's, CB's.

Like @AK_Cane said we need football players who can win. Lingard was the perfect example of elite speed but wasn't a football player.

We do have ELITE speed coming in at the WR position. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah man seeing as we are entering all the excel wizards season where all that matters is 40 times out of pads, how tall you are, how much you weight, arm length, hand size, inseam length, shoe sizes. Who give 2 ***** about film you know. Can tell you right now having played football in Florida and watching it for a very long time I have seen players who run a 4.5 without pads on look a lot faster than someone who rips off a 4.3. There's a lot that goes into diagnosing and Knowing what to do on a football field where that straight line speed does not correlate. Not I'm not saying I want slow people. I'm saying give me The cats who actually play the game of football fast.

Can you name the speed element from IU's team?

@Coach Macho good to hear. We already have a Top 20 offense, can't wait to see us with an infusion of speed. Players that can change the game in one play. Bhayshul Tuten, Isaac Brown, Kewan Lacy, dude at Florida last year, etc all hurt us with big runs the past few years because of their speed...I want to return the favor to our opponents.

The LBs that Hetherman brought in this cycle can run.

Mario is doin' work!!

The ELITE SPEED is always what separated us.

When you compare the team speed to other elite P4 programs it's probably below average overall if you lined up all the position groups and raced them.

A bit harsh…I I'd say we are right there average or even on the plus side of average with elite programs moving forward

Spafford
Toney
Pringle
Lyle
Wiley
Mueller
Frederique
Lucas
Wyman
Dunnegan
Waters
Edwards
Paris
Fitzgerald
Hussey
Campbell?

All 3rd year or younger (most 1st/2nd)…All besides the LB are sub 11/likely 4.5 or 4.55 lasers or lower I believe? And all those LB are plus speed for LB.

Portal guys we brought in Vaughn and especially Jacobs are definitely speed upgrades compared to what we have.
