From a former prosecutor, please understand that prosecutors dismiss charges all the time when the evidence does not support how the case was charged by the police. This is pretty normal in criminal cases. Sometimes the cops are over zealous, and sometimes they charge all possible crimes and let the prosecutors decide what makes the most sense. From my cases I would say I dismissed some of the original charges 5-10% of the time.

If you think this was some kind of favor to UM, or there was some back room dealing going on, then you have never worked in criminal law in any capacity and don’t understand how decisions are made. And when people take the time to explain it to you (not me, but rather @dolemite79 ), then please at least try to grasp what they are telling you.
