Jon Gruden on Denzel Perryman

The main flaws behind Perryman is that he isn't great in coverage, not great speed, and struggled to shed blocks in college, His short arms don't help with that last one either. Looks to be a two down linebacker at the next level sooo yea he shouldn't go in the 1st.

Future HOF Zach Thomas says Hi.

diff game from when zach played to now. u have to be excellent in pass coverage as a LB nowadays.

i agree...but, and i can't remember who said this on the nfl network, it was said that the nfl is now a passing league against teams who can't stop the run or get to the qb. perryman is not great in pass coverage, but he's decent enough...his bread and butter will be defending his area and stopping the run. his short area speed is great.

Zach Thomas was an unbelievable coverage linebacker. He also struggled with O-lineman though.

With the 30th selection in the 2015 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select....Denzel Perryman, Linebacker from the University of Miami.

He would thrive in Capers' 3-4.

Love Gruden for the attention but this the same Gruden who I'm PRETTY SURE could've been coaching Perryman. He appears to have a great respect for this U but keeping that gig at ESPN is why Mel Kiper idiot *** and you can argue about fantastic players like this. This could've been yours and so much more Gruden. Smh

All I know is that at one point during the season he was a legit butkus favorite. Right after the gtech game is when he turned it on.

He was better then beason was here and he has a unique skill that is hard to find these days. People want the next Navarro Bowman but give me Patrick Willis pre injurt all day. When Perryman hits you, you go down..period.

He will be the best LB that came out of this Draft if he stays healthy and it wont be close.

Is that the GTech game where we lined him up 15 yards off the ball and left the C uncovered to block him at will?

God I hate Al Golden.

Perryman is the real deal. Not sure that all the issues with him in coverage are his fault. I am convinced that with a competent staff you would see players play closer to their true potential in college rather than blowing up when they get to the NFL. I'm not sure if he is perennial All-Pro at the next level, but he will be a very good NFL LB for a long time. He is natural at his position and knows it well as he's played it since high school at least. He is an explosive hitter - very aggressive. Players either have that or they don't.

I still remember all of the naysayers who doubted Vilma when he came out - some claimed he was too small to play Mike at the next level and that he was a tweener - whatever. They said similar things about Beason, then Spence, and now Perryman. Perryman is a true Cane. He'll represent us very well at the next level.

That's a great group of LBs. We didn't always have that kind of talent at that position. Tiger Clark, George Mira, Jr, Rod Carter, Randy Shannon....they played well for us, but the talent didn't start to take off until Barrow, Armstead, and Darren Smith.

Incidentally, the talent in the early '80's, when we first won a NC, was even more ordinary: Jay Brophy, Jack Fernandez, a few others.
