Wow they miss out on Lashlee and then hire the complete opposite. Donovan is a Pro Style OC who was last fired as Penn State OC. How do you go after two OCs who run completely different systems.

What happens when you hire a DC as head coach and he has no connections.

Defensive minded guys make the worst HCs because of their OC hires. Just seems to be a trend in cfb right now... even Kirby Smart, despite all of their success, if he hired a good innovative OC he probably already has a NC ring

wasnt saban a defensive minded guy? i think smart, had he landed enos, wouldve been fine bc of their OL and QB play, but lost out on enos and ended up with coley

In another thread a week or so ago i mentioned that Saban and Orgeron are the only ones that have gotten it right that i can think of.

Took Saban a while to evolve to make a good innovative hire. Orgeron made a bad hire in Canada, followed it up with another bad hire in Ensminger, and saved himself when he brought in Brady to implement that Saints system.

Kirby Smart, Jeremy Pruitt, Manny Diaz (until Lashlee), now Jimmy Lake, and I'm sure there's more ... all of their hires were pro-style

I’m interested to see what aranda does as a hc

O went through a lot of bad before finally striking gold imo. either way, weve seen what the right O guy can do for even the most average or below average of coaches. if lashlee is the deal, itll save a ton of jobs. hopefully, the hc figure out how to game plan properly during bye weeks bc losing on every bye week is inexcusable.

Defensive minded coaches wanna protect their defense. The best way to do that is to run a slow offense.

Yup.

Defensive guys tend to hire OC's that will protect their Defense by playing slow paced ball control offense, they stay conservative because they don't want their Defense having to be on the field too much, but what's funny is playing ultra conservative ball control style offense just leads to more 3 & outs which puts their Defense back on the field anyway lol.
