Buffalo Bills - July 31, 2015 Linebacker Jimmy Gaines, local product from Canisius High School and Linebacker with the Miami Hurricanes Gaines impressed the Buffalo Bills with his speed during the preseason, when he made 10 tackles in five games played. But he was released Saturday as the Bills trimmed their roster to 53 players and subsequently signed to the Bills practice squad.

For some Canes in the League, Rome was not built in a day. So you have to wonder if local favorite Tommy Streeter could parlay his craft to a spot on Dolphins squad, and if not, then one on the practice squad while Laron Byrd, once projected as the next "Michael Irvin" at UM and later as "Baby Fitzgerald" with the Cardinals, is figuring whether 20015 is the charm to cement their legacy in the league. Streeter is again hurt. Byrd may not be eligible for the Miami's practice squad, if cut as many expect, as this is his third year in the league with both NFL game time experience and stats.

Does it seem like every single former Cane completely tears it up in day 1 of training camp every season?

I had a conversation last night with an ole cane fan and we were discussing the 08 class and who was still on any 53 man rosters and playing..

other than Spence I have no idea?

again from about 81-04 most of these guys would never see the field here

You ole geezers! Better get better dosage of Aricept, Exelon, Razadyne or down a bottle Prevagen daily coz a bunch of these top incoming guys and those guys that left out after their last 2011 season ARE in the league, either starting or contracted in and out of practice squads logging in an NFL game here and another game later there: Travis Benjamin, Tommy Streeter, Arthur Brown, Tyler Horn, Brandon Harris, Lamar Miller, Ray Ray Armstrong, Laron Byrd, Adewale Ojomo, Marcus Forston, Olivier Vernon, Brandon Harris, Brandon Washington, and of course Spence. Micanor Regis had a little burn and now in Canada with Jacory Harris, who suddenly turned into a running QB. Now, that's just off the top of my head, I may miss a player or two.

That 2011 team was LOADED with NFL talent with as many players on NFL contracts as our most recent of 2014 team that went the same identical regular record of 6-6. The next year another UM led Golden team went 7-5.

...which may lead a reasonable mind to extrapolate that with the same HC Golden, DC D Ono, and OC Coley leading the charge again, UM will fare no better than 7-5 in 2015

Almost all of those guys are special teams or 3rd string, and about half of them aren't in the league anymore or played 0 games.

And guys like, Streeter, and maybe Vernon, Miller had no business leaving early.

Being on the practice squad isn't really "NFL talent".

As bad as Golden is I don't think it is accurate to pretend that 2011 team was "loaded".

While Streeter should have stayed to harness his one year pony of talent, both Miller and Vernon absolutely did the right thing to leave. These two DEFINITELY had NFL talent who thought it was best to continue their talent development in the League. Heck, Golden had one Freshman Chickillo starting and taking major reps from Vernon...and he was supposed to come back to that circus master and mind game master Golden...papaplease! While that team lost 7 games, it was competitive and a play away from winning all its games. Bottom, these players always had their team playing close enough that they were one lucky break from winning it all. Always losing such games is bad coaching. That is a FAR CRY from the following year when they got KILLED by two teams they played closed the previous year and destroyed by too many teams that were not on UM level. Practice squads, being elevated to play a game or a handful is still talent streaming into the league. I know lots of 5* incoming that never get to even sniff a practice squad, let alone to actually play in one, and able to say "I played in the League"

Not sure why you dated the 1st part July 31, 2015 - that has to be from last summer because rosters are not anywhere near being trimmed to 53. Jimmy Gaines is currently part of the Buffalo Bills roster

My first reaction was that I was so glad to be wrong. Then I see that, as of the previous year, he is projected by all to be cut once again, and back to his local team practice squad. But, hey, he has logged real game experience but no stats, so if he keeps himself in shape and around, that break ain't but around the corner.

July 31 - Cornerback Will Davis was beaten badly on a deep throw for the second day in a row. On Thursday, he was victimized by Tommy Streeter, who dropped a perfect pass from Matt Moore. On Friday, LaRon Byrd beat Davis for a 50-yard touchdown pass from Moore.

Davis had a deflection but also was badly beaten on a deep pass to Tommy Streeter, who dropped Matt Moore’s perfect spiral…. Rookie Bobby McCain had an interception off Josh Freeman but dropped two others.

July 30 - ### Receiver: With the top four set and Rishard Matthews a strong front-runner for the fifth job, several skilled receivers probably won’t stick. Among those: Michael Preston, who impressed teammates all spring and made two terrific receptions Thursday; Matt Hazel (nifty leaping grab) and LaRon Byrd (two excellent diving catches).

would have been mighty nice if the Phins made a UM reunion of Vernon, MIller, Fox, and the WR duo of Byrd and Streeter
Streeter still working on not dropping passes. Byrd on the other hand...

Actually Gaines was one of our more athletic backers... However he never settles in one position... He should have always been a weak side backer... I recall trying him out in the middle for about 2 years... That wasn't his position...

If you play in the league and hang around for more than a year then you have NFL talent.... That 2011 team had more than enough talent... Our top 3 wide outs are on rosters... Then the the two younger wideouts in Hurns and Dorsett are on rosters... That's 5 wideouts... At one point Golden had Miller, James and Storm on the roster (3NFL backs), he had countless NFL olinemen with Wsshington, Linder, Henderson, andFeliciano,... He had an NFL qb and the 2nd and 3rd all time passers in school history. He had 3 NFL tight ends in Ford, Samuel and Cleveland(who he never played)... He had several NFL defenders... How can anyone dispute the talent on the 2011 squad? We were only blown out one game because we were out coached... We had more experience and talent than every team we played that year... Al never got a pass from me... Too be honest, his first year should have been along the lines of Meyer or no less than 11 games... I can't believe dude is down playing special teams or depth guys... It's not like everyone from this class is going to be a starter... NFL talent is NFL talent...

Its funny people always be like well its not first round talent yada yada. So who tf does Duke and UVA have? Show me their first round talent. Just get off it already. We have more players drafted than 3 teams in the national semifinal. Prepare thy livers for another abomination from fat Al
