With UM still looking to secure at least 2 more NT/DT prospects for the 2014 Class, lets take a look at 6'3" 315lbs 2014 NT Jeremy Patterson from Wayne County HS in Jesup, GA.

Patterson has been hearing from programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina, but he appears to be more of under serious evaluation plan B prospect for them. Patterson expected to visit the Tide and Bulldogs sometime during the spring or summer.

Clemson was the first to offer Patterson and that had the Tigers sitting in good shape at one point. "He has a high interest in them," Wayne County coach Jody Groom said during an interview back in the spring. "They offered last summer. Clemson is in good shape. Florida State is in good shape also. We have a player at Florida State. And Florida is in good shape as well. Those three have been on him longer than the rest." Clemson recruiter Brent Venables visited on the first day he could go out (which says a lot about how they feel toward Patterson). Florida State, Florida, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, North Carolina and NC State also have been in and have offered him. Patterson visited Georgia and Florida State this spring. Groom said Patterson wants to decide during his season because he's planning to graduate early. He'll take some official visits before deciding. Last season Patterson had 37 tackles with 5 sacks. "He's very strong and athletic," his coach said. "He ran a sub 5.0sec 40yd Dash. Patterson as a junior could hang clean 405lbs, benches 365lbs and his back press is 385lbs." (The back press is a standing shoulder press except it starts from behind neck, much harder then doing it in the front. It requires great overall strength since there is not jerking motion to help with momentum).

But now it appears Wisconsin has taken the lead for Patterson's recruitment because they are looking at him as a DT, where all the other schools want him as an OG, an he would prefer to play defense. Patterson visited Wisc. this weekend with his best friend and former 2014 UGA commit WR krenwick Sanders.

UM has made the transition to 3-4/4-3 over defense now, and essentially the NT is a defensive OG that can draw a double team an defeat it by playing with great leverage at the point of attac which Patterson does well. I think if UM started recruiting Patterson we could Jump to the top of his list since we would recruit him for defense an given the choice of playing at UM vs Wisc that is an easy choice for a Georgia boy. Patterson will be an Early Enrollee for 2014 so going through a spring of Utough and possible red-shirting for the 2014 season could allow Patterson to develop into a monster NT at 6'3" 330lbs of solid run stuff Georgia beast manning the middle for UM's defense. This is the type of low key big bodied type Dlinemen that BAMA & other SEC teams stock pile then 2 years later after a being in a S&C program emerge as a monster DT/NT.

Is there any reason to think we jump to the top of his list?

Yes, As I said in my write up HE wants to play Defense and everyone except Wisconsin is recruiting him as an Offensive linemen, which he wants no part of. So if he is willing strongly considering going all the way to bumble land Wisconsin just to for opportunity to play defense then **** yeah UM would jump to the top of the list. He was ready to commit to FSU in spring but they want him offense an had hoped his former teammate and current Seminole Jr Offensive Guard Tre Jackson would convince of the benefits to switching since they did the same with him. But Patterson is not trying to hear any of that, so this could also be an additional motivating factor to join UM and beat the FSU who.

Gave Wisconson visit high marks, but still remaining open. DT Jeremy Patterson took his first flight ever for his first official visit. He flew from south Georgia to Wisconsin this weekend. The Badger fans made him feel welcome according to the 247sports article.

UM can recruit against any $EC team as long as the bag man is not invovled and with Patterson being a back-up plan for the $EC power teams the bag man won't visit unless some team needs a last minute addition in February 2014. But he will be an early enrollee so he would already be enrolled before the bagman cometh, also add in the fact most of them want him as an OG, where as UM would take him on defense.
