James Franklin VT

I never would've expected it to happen, but it makes sense. Franklin has ties to the area. He was Maryland's HC in waiting under Friedgen before going to Vanderbilt.

I know Blacksburg is a good ways away, but IF they give him the resources he could be a problem recruiting the DMV.

Definitely a 8-10 win program with him consistently after a likely initial growing pain year 1

If they hire him, it would be a great hire for VT. However, a confusing choice for Franklin. He said his goal, after getting fired at PSU, was to win a national championship. There are far better options out there than VT, to do so. That's a top top-to-bottom rebuild, and I know VA enough to know that VT has a ceiling on the $$$ and resources they can give to a program. It isn't the sleeping giant that UVA is.

Think it's been reported that they're gonna make the necessary investment and Franklin is asking for a certain amount for roster building. Don't think he's going into this without his demands being met

Really good get for VT which makes our schedule harder moving forward. I'm really surprised he wasn't tabbed by one of the other higher profile openings. A lot of those schools are going to end up with g5 coaches who have no established p4 success.

I have a feeling Matt Campbell at ISU's gonna get one of the remaining p4 jobs.

I don't doubt that, but I do doubt VT's ability to sustain that level of investment long term. Additionally, they also face another issue, UVA. As a UVA alum, I've said for years that their donor base and fans, by and large, do not care about football. However, that's changed over the past year and a half. They've made massive investments in the program and continue to get huge donations from big donors, and just announced another multi-million dollar donation a few weeks ago.

So now, they've gotta deal with a rival that actually gives a **** about football now, when they haven't for the past few decades. Not to mention the other top ACC schools. Either way, Franklin will raise the bar significantly, just doubt his top end ability.

He was the perfect fit for Auburn.

He’ll win the ACC before Wario does.
