Jabari Ellis 2016 DT from Lake Marion HS in Santee, South Carolina received his 1st major scholarship offer Miami, standing at 6'5" and 290lbs this is an interesting direction for UM dline recruiting considering there are other prospects out there still uncommitted (or flip candidates like Kobe Smith), one wonders if this offer is commitable. Ellis would definitely need a red-shirt year to improve his strength and work on his hands to hand skills.

Here is a link to an article on the young man

ACC offer the latest for '16 DT Jabari EllisOne look at his film and we knew Lake Marion junior defensive tackle had the goods to be a major player in the 2016 recruiting class. A month later the 6'5 286 pound prospect has picked up a pair of offers and should be hearing from plenty more in the coming weeks. He landed an ACC offer on Tuesday and talked about it with us and more.
Jabari Ellis Profile

Things have picked up as of late for 2016 Lake Marion defensive tackle Jabari Ellis since our first story with him a month ago. Schools have been showing interest and during that time he's picked up his first two scholarship offers. His latest came on Tuesday evening and he shared the news with us first.

"The University of Miami just offered me!" Ellis messaged us.

"It feels great man! South Carolina State offered me last week but the feeling of this one is great too. I was actually thinking about taking a visit to Miami this weekend but I don't know yet."

"Miami said that I'm everything that they are looking for in a player, a true Hurricane. He asked how many offers that I already have and I said one from South Carolina State. He said are you sure. He said now you have two congratulations!"

The Hurricanes are his second offer but Ellis was on campus with an SEC school over the weekend and he talked about his time there.

"I was at Georgia this weekend. They showed strong interest in me. I really liked the environment, the coaching staff, and just the whole atmosphere."

So what did the Bulldogs coaches say to Ellis?

"They loved my film! They said that I have nice size and good speed for my size too. They said that I'm a game changer."

During our initial interview with Ellis he said that he felt NC State and South Carolina could be the first ones to offer him. Have those programs remained in the mix for the 6'5 286 pound prospect during the past month with him grabbing his first two offers from other programs?

"Yes sir. NC State is coming to my school next week and South Carolina said they are coming to our spring practice."

Ellis says other schools that have been in contact in the past month are Eastern Michigan and Georgia Southern.

This is a video about his high school, its seems like the south Carolina version of St. Thomas Aquinas meets the old U-School.

I also found this video on his high schools S&C program and it is interesting that one of the weaknesses in Ellis's game is his lack of strength to over power quality olinemen. In his highlight video he shows good ability to stand up blockers an then shed them, however at the rivals Charlotte Camp he alot of trouble disengaging from or over powering blockers which made me wonder what type of S&C development he was receiving an this where the video comes in.

To Ellis's credit in the rivals camp video he shows he was taught some hand to hand techniques, but he lacks the explosion with violent intent you want to see from an interior Dlinemen executing those techniques (it's like he is playing patty cake when he should be slap boxing).

I dont know what you could be talkin about kuz that program ain't no where near a South Carolina version of STA lol

I meant that Lake Marion HS is a school trying to become a football powerhouse quickly given that is the 2nd largest school in their area and have been open less than a decade. Keep in mind St. Thomas took years to become a Juggernaut, and the U-school tried to do the same thing as STA but instead by cutting corners to get there faster but the whole thing back fired.

But more so than focus on the school which I was just giving a back drop of information on, lets discuss the recruit and his recruitment by Miami.

I take it your either from South Carolina or currently live in SC, so then can you offer any insight into to the quality of the competition Jabari Ellis/Lake Marion HS play against since outside of Byners High School and Summerville High schools South Carolina is not really known for high quality football.

Sounds like 2016 DT Jabari Ellis's recruitment is about to get real hot and interesting it is a good thing this a year with a lot of quality DT's throughout the south! So what was once supposed reach by some is now looking like a good find that will still land at Miami by default because of so many quality 2016 DT's. Which could be why his coach took him and few teammates to a camp in Detroit loaded with coaches from every big 10 school in order to get them more exposure! They also hit a camp at UGA looking for offers.

Santee (S.C.) Lake Marion teammates, Top247 2017 safety Davondre Robinson, and 2016 outside linebacker/tight end Emmanuel Walker and 2016 defensive tackle Jabari Ellis are ready to compete at Sound Mind Sound Body in Detroit this week, arriving on Thursday for the two-day showcase.

The trio will be fresh off a camp stop at Georgia on Wednesday.

“I liked it,” Robinson said. Already reporting a Georgia offer, he is the nation’s No. 14 safety according to 247Sports. “I liked how the coaches interact with the players, especially Coach Pruitt.” Other early offers for the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Robinson includes Clemson, Louisville and South Carolina. He’s high on the Bulldogs. “They have a lot of South Carolina players that went there and had good production and made it to the league,” Robinson said. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Walker also reports a scholarship from the Bulldogs and left Athens feeling good. “I really liked it,” he said. “I like their coaches and how they’re intense every drill, do every rep correct.” Walker says Georgia is in his top two with Wake Forest.

Holding an offer from Miami, the 6-foot-2, 280-pound Ellis is looking to earn one from UGA.

“Georgia was great,” Ellis said. “The d-line coach, he’s a really great guy. I liked the college atmosphere. He was telling me I have great speed for a guy my size. He liked me.”

MACOMB, Mich. - The absolute best of the best from this week’s Sound Mind Sound Body Football Academy held at Macomb (Mich.) Dakota High on Friday.

Alpha Dog
Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Coconut Creek Top50 receiver Binjimen Victor continued to stake his claim as the nations’ top receiver.........

Top 10 Defense
1......

3. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Coconut Creek Top50 cornerback Trayvon Mullen could be the best player in the country at his position...

4. Santee (S.C.) Lake Marion defensive tackle Jabari Ellis won nearly every rep during 1-on-1s. At 6-foot-2, 280-pounds, Ellis was quick and agile, powerful. His athleticism as a pass rusher was what was impressive. Offensive linemen were whiffing on him when making inside moves. Miami is his biggest offer, but more could be on the way.......

.....The best defensive tackle at the camp was Jabari Ellis out of Santee (S.C.) Lake Marion. Miami is the only major offer for Ellis, but after Penn State got a good look at him here, perhaps the Nittany Lions will join the mix after they see him at their Charlotte Satellite camp coming up.

Generally, SC kids go to the instate schools (usce, Clemson) or Georgia. It's been a very long time since landed a kid from SC (rocky McIntosh?). santee is very differnt from CG.

M3N your not lying Santee, SC is anti Coral Gables especially considering it has a population of <1,000 with a median household income of $30K and per capita income of $16K (consider the Federal Poverty limit is $11.6K / 1 person and $15.7K / 2 person family). Compared to Coral Gables where the median house hold Income Tax liability is more than the household income for Santee, but there is also 50K people in Coral Gables.

So yeah I can only imagine the culture shock in the transition between the two locales. Hopefully UM can real him.

It's out in the boonies close to 95 & 26 by Orangeburg they got some clubs over there that be popping. Always had a good time in Santee when I used to stay in Columbia

I knew i remembered his name when it came up. i was like i think Paranos did a post on him. well i just watched his camp performance and highlight film. This kid is really good. he would be at the top of best DT's Golden has taken. his technique separates him from the traditional High school DT. Coach Melvin is probably all over this guy the way he uses his hands . He is quick needs a little more strength but he is a take. he is better then Aime who decommitted by far.

Sounds like the young man is waiting on some other offers (committable or not) to come in an his recruitment is starting to explode. An hey who can fault him everyone likes a little attention, and I love the fact this kid literally started at the bottom an is working his way up the DT rankings list camp by camp whooping some quality Olinemen along the way.

I am just hoping that there aren't other background influences guiding his recruitment to garner more exposure for the high school. I mean **** now Miami is fighting with Minnesota for a recruit.

Ellis receiving heavy Gopher interest
Ryan Burns

Most of the Minnesota's staff was at the Sound Body Sound Mind camp in Michigan last week and one defensive lineman that really caught the staff's eye was South Carolina's Jabari Ellis. Ellis spoke with GopherDigest about his recruiting and how interested in Minnesota he truly is.

"I currently have offers from Miami (Fla.), Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Charlotte, Toledo, North Carolina Central, South Carolina State and Western Carolina," Ellis told GopherDigest. "I'm also receiving a lot of interest from Minnesota and Penn State recently as they both saw me last week at Sound Body in Michigan. I'll be camping at one of Penn State's satellite camps in Charlotte soon and I'll be at the Miami camp this weekend. No more visits planned right now other than that."

The South Carolina defensive tackle spoke with Minnesota as recently as last night.

"I spoke with the defensive line coach, Jeff Phelps last night on the phone," Ellis said. "He was getting information from me and asked for my coaches information as well. We were just getting to know one another and he was asking about me basically. We also talked about the Gopher program and what they're about. He said an offer is coming real soon, so there were some important things he said and they're definitely a school I would consider. I think they like me so much as I think one of the best parts of my game is my ability to stand up blockers and drive them into the backfield to then make a play on the ball. I talked with them at the Sound Body Sound Mind camp last week and they liked how I moved for a 285 pound guy, so we'll see what happens with them."

Minnesota isn't the only Big Ten school in the mix now.

"Penn State is another school that's been on me a lot since the camp," Ellis told GopherDigest. "After the one on ones there, three Penn State coaches came over and told me that they'll be recruiting me hard. They actually watched me film on the spot while I was there and that's why I'm going to their camp this week."

Ellis is undecided about when he potentially make his commitment.

"I haven't decided yet when I'll make a decision as it'll be either before the season starts or on signing day. I would appreciate an offer from Minnesota as it'd be a school that I'd definitely consider."

Scout Recruiting - National Signing Day Coverage, Latest Commits, Top Prospects and More Front Page

”I’m still wide open right now,” Jabari Ellis. “I’m just taking my time with the recruiting process."
The 6-foot-5, 286-pound Ellis holds offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Miami, Georgia Southern, South Carolina State and Toledo among others. He is also attracting interest from Minnesota and Penn State.
Ellis’ most recent visit was to Miami.
”I went down for a few days last month and it was a good visit,” he said. “I got to learn a lot about the school. I was also really impressed with the environment and the coaching staff.”
”The coaches were telling me that they wanted me to be a Miami Hurricane. They told me I could come in and be a factor. The visit helped Miami.”

What’s next for Ellis?
”I’d like to commit before the season starts,” he said. “If I pick up some more offers between now and then, that may push it back, though.
”The main factors are going to be my relationship with the coaching staff, the atmosphere at the school and how I fit into their system.”
