Is Texas A&M Actually Good?

I know it is way too early but I've been on Cloud 9 all day and am way too fired up not to talk about it. I couldn't even bring myself to login here because I knew I'd spend the whole **** day on here.

Of course A&M is good. I am happy to be in regardless, but given the option, A&M would be the team I want to play the LEAST, primarily because they are so similar to us.. That said, we are a tough matchup for them too. I think they are beatable, but they are built trenches out like us and will be the best offensive and defensive lines we've seen all season.

Injuries will be a key thing to track. A&M will likely get back a few players, including Le'Veon Moss, who hasn't played since October. Can we get Frederique back? Can we get Scott back? I'd settle for a fully healthy David Blay and CJ Daniels.

Also, Collin Klein is going to coach the Aggies' offense through the playoff AND take over at Kansas State simultaneously. There must be some precedent here and I'd be curious to hear how that went. Someone smarter than me should do that, though.

I know big bad Mike Elko is a defensive coach, but A&M's offense is much scarier than the defense this season.

I think Marcel Reed is a good college quarterback. He is a good decision-maker and is a dangerous runner, but Reed is really just a distributor because the A&M offense is pretty simple -- make good use of one of the country's best offensive lines and run Reuben Owens (and Moss). And then get the ball to KC Concepcion and Mario Craver and let them work.

Those guys represent the lion's share of the Aggies' offensive yards and for good reason. All four of them are probably playing on Sundays in a few years in some capacity.

I'm confident that our front seven, if fully healthy, can hold serve in the run game. But our secondary hasn't seen NFL receivers since Chris Bell and we all remember how that went. Granted Bell is a different type of receiver, but Concepcion in particular is an absolute stud and maybe the best slot receiver in the country (sorry Malachi, you are close!). Can you imagine if we had both those dudes in space this season?

The Oline is big and experienced and the matchup with our DL, in my opinion, will be the matchup that decides the game. I know, it is obvious, but if we can keep a lid on their rushing attack, Reed isn't a pure passer in my opinion and they can be beat. But that is a lot easier said than done, especially with the big-play potential at wide receiver.

The tight end is the type of gigantic slow beefy white blocker that Mario probably fantasizes about before he goes to sleep for whatever that is worth.

As for the defense, don't get me wrong, they have plenty of size and plenty of pedigree. But if I am being completely honest, I think this group benefitted from A&M's more than anyone wants to talk about. They got cooked by Notre Dame just two weeks after we played ND, the best SEC quarterback they faced was the only one who beat them and they have the worst rushing defense (yards/game) of any team left in the playoffs.

Cashius Howell is great but he's on the smaller side and we have two of the best pass-blocking tackles in the country. The defensive tackles aren't remarkable, but they are deep and all physical. Luckily, we don't do the run blocking so good, so I am not even a little bit worried about that at all...

Taurean York and Daymion Sanford are the undersized playmaking linebackers I wanted Bobby Pruitt to be (I still have faith!) but that size disadvantage is part of the reason that teams have had some success rushing against them. Dezz Ricks looks like an NFL corner and I like the safeties, Brooks and Ratcliffe. This is a Top 20 passing defense but it helps to go against Jackson Arnold and Beau Pribula and injured Garrett Nussmeier. The best quarterbacks they faced were Taylen Green and CJ Carr, and both of them through for at least 280.

**** even LaNorris Sellers threw for 250 and he is still trying to wrap his mind around the forward pass.

I went too long but I don't give a ****. I am so god**** happy to playing meaningful football again at the end of the season. I never thought the committee would get that right. It has been so ******* long. The season is already a success in my eyes but I think we have the defense and the quarterback to beat any team in the field.

As my personal hero and lifelong inspiration, Billy Napier, once said, Spot The Ball.

I’ve watched a lot of games of theirs this year (whole family other than me and mom graduated from A&M, we’re all going, so stoked), and IMO, they go as Marcel Reed goes. When he’s on on, he’s the best quarterback in the country straight up (has happened in maybe three games). But when he’s off, and when Collin Klein is calling a game scared, they’re a slightly above average, very beatable football team

I think their offense is legit and pretty balanced. They can run and throw equally well and have a dual threat QB who can really hurt you in open field..

Our OC might be doing double duty also but many have done it before, multiple coaches in playoffs are doing it.. (Both Tulane and JMU HC, OSU OC, Etc.)

Their defense is very aggressive and they cause alot of negatives but they can be run on and many have had success. They lead nation in sacks and 3rd down defense.. Pass defense is solid but they can get to passer with 4 but will heat you up on 3rd down and be very aggressive.

Both WR give them explosive elements and their Oline is very good against pass (only one more sack than us) and running ball, combine that with dual threat very difficult offense. Aub and Tex did best job I guess.

Let’s not forget, Klein was just named HC at his Alma mater. How much of his focus is gonna be in Manhattan, Kansas for the next 2 weeks?

We can get ours on their defense. They were 54th in the country in scoring defense playing a very weak SEC schedule.

69th in the country in yards per carry allowed. Only forced 9 turnovers the entire year. Only 3 picks. A little better pass defense than run defense, but they played some bad QBs. Got lit up by Carr at ND very early in the year. Green at Arkansas lit them up. But look at the kids they played besides that. Auburn. Shapen at Miss State. Lagway. Arch. Mizzou’s backup. Nussmeier. Sellers. That’s 7 games against buttcheeks.

Dawson needs to be in his bag again. We can protect against anyone in America, but they did lead the country in sacks per game. That’s going to be the entire story going in. Can we limit Reed and their offense, which is definitely the strength of their team? Our strength is our defense. And on the other side, can they pressure Beck? I love this matchup for us. As I’ve said all year, I think teams with better defenses than offenses match up better than us because I think we’re going to limit anyone we play and although our offense isn’t great, it’s plenty good enough to score on you if that’s not your dominant side.

As I’ve said all year, just get to 30. If we scored 30 every week, we’d be 12-0. A&M let 3 teams get 30 on them and Texas scored 27. I love this matchup for us. If you give Beck time he’s gonna carve you up. And their whole thing is pressuring the QB. We play good defense, and we pass block like animals. Go drop 30 on these clowns and I’ll take my chances we don’t let Reed get there.

#1, #7, and Marcel Reed. Stop them and we win. All top 4 Leading rushers average 5 yards a carry. They do a good job getting 7 and 1 into space. Marcel Reed to me looks like he already know where he's going with the ball.

Is 7 open? Is 1 open? No... Run.

Cover 3 and 4 keep everything in front of you. Top 2 WRs under 6ft. Cross Routes, Mesh Routes, and deep if they're 1 on 1.

At one time this season I thought TAMU might be elite. But, they aren’t. They certainly have athletes and good coaching but they aren’t world beaters. In my opinion, TAMU feasted on a slightly above average ND team and a very bad SEC. Also, TAMU had a very favorable SEC schedule.

Big story will be Le’Veon Moss. He hasn’t played since October. But he’s been dressed at practices. He’s their best back by far. Rueben Owens doesn’t scare me. Moss is better, but again he’s been out for a long time and if he does play, is he fully healthy?

Their 2 WRs, Craver and Concepcion, are electric but small and slight. I like our bigger corners against them. But they’re very fast. Gotta get hands on them and tackle. And of course limit Reed the best we can. He’s only a 61% passer, but they hit a lot of explosives. If we can keep things in front we’ll be fine. Obvious here, but having Scott would be so big for this game. He has the ability to track Reed from his slot position.

Very good team like us. Winning consistently in the p4 shows they’re talented and well coached

I can’t speak to matchups right now, but they were down 30-3 against South Carolina, played 7 of the bottom 9 SEC teams, and were soundly beaten by 9-3 Texas.

Outside of the SEC bias, they basically were eliminated but for a 4 TD comeback against South Carolina. They’re very beatable.
They aren’t playing good football right now
We gonna get their asses

Miami has a shot to win this game, TAMU hasn't been playing well of late and honestly, may have been the beneficiary of a weak SEC schedule. They have legit talent, but they also have a fair amount of flaws. Winning at Kyle is never an easy task, but this Miami team has enough weapons and talent to do just that. The question is whether this team can string together two great weeks of practice and arrive mentally sharp. If Miami is focused and EXECUTES, this game can be had.
