For Manny to be successful, it will all come down to recruiting and strategy. Manny needs to be relentless on the recruiting field, it needs to consume him, it needs to be his wife, girlfriend and mistress. We do not have the benefit of being like LSU or Ohio State or even USC, where kids in our backyard automatically want to play for the local school. We have to compete with everything we got for the top recruits. I have never been to South Florida, but I do know those kids have aspirations of playing in the NFL. Manny needs to sell these kids on not restoring glory back to the U and winning championships, but he has a plan to put them in the NFL. Kids are not going to Bama , OSU, Clemson, UGA because they want live in Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Clemson, or even Athens over Miami, but because those schools will get them ready for the NFL. Winning is important, but kids want to play at the next level.

In terms of hiring coaches, they need to be able to do two things: recruit and develop players for the NFL. If Diaz can show he can develop players for NFL at a high level, top players will come, if top players come then we will compete for championships. Then it will feed on itself.
Kids and their handlers are making business decisions, we need to talk not about the glory days from 20 years ago, but how we can get them paid.

Question: why would a top-player in South Florida play for Miami over Bama? I need a reason beyond he just want to play close to home? If your son is a top DB would you want Banda/Rumph coaching him or Nick Saban? Which one do you think can prepare your son best for the NFL? See my point?

It will help a lot. We can sell them on present and recent former players who have been coached and developed and now playing at a high level in the NFL.

First off he just needs to make canes football fun and interesting. Do that and things will stay to get better

I think there are top kids every year that want to play for Miami, just like USC, LSU & UGA... that said, kids sign for lots of reasons, but the 5* big dogs in SoFL have NFL talent and need to be sold on 3 and done. There cant be any of this waisting away on the bench, waiting, learning to block. How you develop a 5* is your resume for future 5* commits.

.

There is a video of Nick Saban coaching the DBs at Bama. He coaching and teaching with such detail that you would think that this is a NFL coach teaching during NFL training camp. That is what I mean about developing a 5* talent. Just like in basketball. We know Zion Williams and RJ Barrett are going to the NBA, but they know Coach K is going to refine their game, teach them about nutrition and taking care of their bodies, train them in social media, and they will be able to strengthen their game by practicing against other 5* players.
Thus, if I am a top player in Basketball there are only a few schools I am going to Duke, Kentucky and maybe Kansas. Those schools have infrastructure in place to handle and prepare top talents and prepare them for the next level.

Exactly. Some people didnt think it was a big deal that Pope & Lingard rode the pine most of the year... those people were wrong, it has major recruiting consequences. Developing 5*s is the fastest way to the top.

what rumph did with mike Jackson should be admired. **** he got Colbert drafted after he came here for 1 yr he has done great with his cb coaching his recruiting leaves a lot to be desired but coaching has been top notch u come to Miami cause its home and frankly Miami players in nfl do better then bama players its not made up its fact. saban gets his kids to there ceiling in college but they have no where to go in pros are all used up some still do good in pros but way more ha ha Clinton dix's then cj mosley's from bama

Here is the thing people also need to understand.

Kid don't just want to go to the NFL they want to be 1st round picks. Top kids go to programs that has a repetition of consistently developing players into winners, all-Americans, and 1st round draft picks. No kid goes to Alabama thinking I hope I get drafted they go expecting to be developed into a 1st round draft pick. We're not talking about "sleepers" 1st round picks either.

It wild to me that people think getting a bunch of players drafted with majority of them being day 3 picks will get kids to buy into your development program.

Thank you.

The Old Canes sent 2 and 3 stars into the League relentlessly. Manny needs to bring that culture back to the Gables.

Oh, and hire Butch and make him your Recruiting Coordinator. Then sit back and watch them come.
