I hated “Monkey Boy” as Butch’s DC. HATED him. We would do clever things like blitz Reed and keep Blades deep in coverage. HATED him. Still remember us giving up 500(?) passing yards to FSU, with Reed, Rumph, PBuch, Morgan, Williams, and other 1st Rounders on our defense.

Never understood how he got so many gigs in his career.

Baker tops the HATE list for me now.

C’mon, man. Schiano wasn’t perfect but he improved our Defense a lot from the **** show we had from 95’-98.’ It was more of a Miami Defense. That FSU team was loaded too.

Baker? Has Donofrio fancy **** written all over it.

He got the gigs he did because he leveraged his time in the NFL while being really young, his fortune being with Butch at the right time, and helping turn Rutgers from being basically a FCS caliber school to competent. Regarding the latter, it took him like ten years to do so, and even then he couldn't really improve them beyond competent after many years. Plus, he talks like a tough guy, and people who like sports, like tough guys more than they like people with brains.
 
Not gonna lie if **** does not get better throughout the season, Manny really needs to think about finding a new DC, getting rid of Rumph and Banda and find a legit DB coach, find a better DL coach, get a ST coach, and get one LB coach, like why do we have a striker coach and LB coach and a S coach, and CB coach. That **** is mad stupid.

Manny’s defense relies in a disruption up front. Without the DL causing pressure, it puts alot of pressure on a very young secondary. This why Stroud is #1 on my list of coaches to go. Great story, great guy, but a massive drop off from Kool and Simpson (the latter of which ended up being a home run).

This right here. We are still running Manny's defense. Baker is just a convenient scapegoat (albeit that delayed blitz on 4th & 17 was ill advised). We're just not doing as good of a job getting to the QB as we did the last couple of years, and our secondary is getting exposed. Ivey doesn't even look like he belongs on the field right now.

We got carved up in 2016/2017 by mediocre QBs because Manny ran too much zone, and didn’t press, or reroute. We’re not rerouting WRs at all. Again.

The details matter. The COACHING of the designed blitz matters. What we showed FSU in 2018 prior to the combo blitz off the corner vs what we did after the snap to create the fumble by our Safety is a perfect example.

Baker’s coaching/attention to detail is lacking. Which explains why we had a BLITZER coming from Jupiter on 4&17. Just one example. Our **** poor tackling. Another. I mean, our ability to make a tackle has dropped off significantly. He isn’t an elite DC. Manny isn’t the DC. Part time DCing won’t work. The details matter.

A first time HC can Not afford to have a Stool as a DC, and a Pigeon for a STs coach. 4&17.

Stroud was great hire as what he was originally hired for. As an analyst/support staff. I hope the lack of a real search for a DL coach and the rush to promote Stroud to DL coach was because of the timming of Simpsons departure. But thats just hope. We shall see I guess

We don't have the destructive tackle to make Manny's defense work. There's a big drop off with Willis leaving. No one has been able to pick up that role. Plus we have inexperience CBs. If you're going to play all out get to the QB defense, you need CBs you can trust on an island. We haven't filled Jackson's spot adequately.

Feel the same way about MonkeyBoy Schiano. He’s been so vastly overrated as a defensive coach his entire career and managed to make a bunch of future nfl HOFers look average here. That defense he stewarded last year at Ohio Taint was an embarrassment.

Baker is Manny’s Fredo.
