Is a sports passion always odd or unhealthy

Not Canes related but I have friends that are in their late 20s/early 30s now and their football career ended at high school/college and they're depressed about not making the NFL and obsessed with it to an unhealthy point

I didn’t think I could feel any worse after the 02 Natty game but the last game in the OB against UVA did it for me… I had to get control of myself after that. Sent me over the edge and I felt physically ill. I don’t think anyone should have that happen to them over their fandom. It ain’t healthy

As I’ve gotten older, I care less and less about most sports. I’d say I’m just a casual fan now. Except for UM/college football. I’m probably more into the entire sport now than I ever was. Obviously I live and die for Miami games but I’ll watch almost any college game if I’m not busy.

A major turning point for me was when my kids started playing sports. Those games immediately became so much more important to me than any other games. I vividly recall watching a pro football game after leaving one of my kids sporting events and thinking, “why am I cheering for someone else’s kids.”

My kids games gave me so much more perspective on sports than I could have thought possible. I still love watching sports but I only watch the teams that I am truly passionate about; Canes (all sports), Steelers, U of Michigan basketball and the 76ers. If I watch a game beyond that it’s because I turned on the game in the 3rd or 4th quarter and something compelling was occurring. But if “my teams” aren’t playing I pretty much don’t watch anymore.

If the Canes lose on a weekend...its typically hsot for me...I try to go on a date or out to vibe/party but the vibes are typically dead.

And i was a die hard dolphins as well growing up crying as kid when we would lose....The dolphins found a way to push me more into cane fandom. lol

I have YET to rewatch the OSU game....nothing...kind of erased it from memory.

Dont know why but this years FSU lost was one of the worst feelings ive had for awhile with a cane loss.

I think the attachment got worst as i began to bet on the games lmaoo....if yall were in the gameday threads it was a few games i legitimately was freaking out over our outcomes and me losing money because of Manny.

Same here. I've made an effort to become a hockey fan, bc it's a pretty good product to watch... especially in person. But still nothing comes close to college football.

I truly don't know how anyone can consistently watch NBA or MLB anymore. I'd be more into any random group of 5 football game than watching NBA players flop around or take endless free throws.

Hopefully The Rock can put together a decent product with the XFL and I can just watch football year round. There should be a ton super talented practice squad and guys who get cut after a few years caliber players looking to extender their playing days.

Its odd and unhealthy for everyone else who does not match the passion or the drive that you have for doing that sport. People wonder about Michael Jordan and his mentality of playing basketball simply because they haven't done it that way. That accounts for people who don't participate the sport and for athletes who simply do not share that mindset.

I know a lot of people who don't follow or watch soccer and they don't understand why I and many others play it. And it's a waste of time explaining it because they wouldn't understand why.

At the same time, it can become odd and unhealthy for us as well. If we follow and participate in a sport where we ignore both physical and mental borders and damage our body both short and long-term, its becoming unhealthy. And that correlates to not necessarily sucking all the time (pause), but more to being good and just not getting it done at the end when it matters.

My wife loves football, unfortunately it’s the cowboys, but she understands the passion and leaves me alone fall Saturday’s..got it pretty good, can’t lie.
