ACC Week 3 stats wrap: Louisville Cardinals' offensive woes worsen - ACC Blog - ESPN

Miami has scored on 56.4 percent of its drives, which ranks eighth in FBS, but its TD rate of 33.3 percent is just 39th. The Hurricanes are finding the end zone on just 47.6 percent of their red-zone drives, 108th nationally. Since the start of 2014, only five Power 5 teams have been worse.

Two things jump off the screen this season when watching our offense...

1. Between Kaaya running the show and our skill guys, we can move the ball really well and look sharp doing it.
2. Unless we're in the red zone or short yardage.

This is because James Coley turns into a potato inside the 20. Its medical term is known as Andy Reiditis

We never use a fullback and don't seem to have the type of interior Oline that can get low enough to grind that short yardage. Throw in the fact that Al does not value speed, and you get a lot of WRs and RBs getting stopped short on goal on long plays. Then we have to line up in the red zone. We have always been long strike team; not dust bowl. That is why the noles games were always close. They were the only team with good enough defensive speed to keep a 20, 30 or 40 yard play from going the distance.

The goal line calls need to be cleaned up. Like last year, Coley is out-thinking himself and then he probably gets the call from Ghoulden to "run it" when we simply can't get the push on the OL. I think if we had converted on 3rd and goals like we should have the past couple games you'll find that FBS average higher.

I think it's easier to move the ball when a defense is worried about the threat of a deep pass. Seeing as we're Miami and we have speed, defenses always plan for the long ball. This allows us to run the ball a little bit and use the intermediate passing game. Well once you get inside the 20 yard line the threat of a deep ball is gone. Now it's time for the O-line to knuckle-up and time for the OC to get a little more creative.

Perhaps that's part of the reason for our struggles.

Sounds about right!

According to you before the season Miami didn't speed so which one is it....

I am a Chiefs fan and you are dead on! He gets waay to cute in the red zone. Did you watch the Chiefs vs Denver game last Thursday? Some of the worst play calling I have ever seen.

Coley cant help himself either. Tries too hard and calls awful plays.

I don't think he needs to get creative... He needs to run some stretch plays... If you notice he only runs up the middle... Teams can game plan for that all day...

As an Iggles fan, love Andy Reid in Red.

Our redzone woes are part of the reason why I hate being in the Shotgun almost exclusively. I understand why it helps us between the 20s but as Coach Macho said, the field is condensed once you are inside the ten. Add to the fact our QB is not a threat to run, makes running from the gun even more difficult from that part of the field. We really need to incorporate more power looks between the 20s and start becoming more physical. I know you can employ the same blocking schemes up front whether in the gun or not but its the action in the backfield that can help lead to big plays in the pass game. Teams are going to wait us out between the 20s than bog us down in the redzone with the philosophy we are going with now.

We don't. But we're still Miami and we're perceived as a speed team that always has somebody that can go deep. The fact that we're not as fast as a typical Miami team this year doesn't change how opposing DC's perceive us. (I doubt they know our off-season forty times)

If I knew somebody was gonna be a **** and nitpick my post I would've been more specific.

Yeah I like stretch plays with guys like Yearby and Walton.

Or...

If they don't wanna get out of the gun they could at least run some of those same power running principles/plays. Put an H-back in the backfield with the RB and run some power running plays. (iso, power, counter, etc)

They're used to practicing against Dorito's prevent/3-man front goal line defenses in practices. For some reason, nobody else does that in games.
