Because there were deficiencies as he had said.

Why did we not hit the transfer portal harder? Why not hire an OC that players across the country would SALIVATE to come play for? Hey maybe I am wrong, if so, nail my ***. But, I didn't see the kind of urgency you would think a coach would have who KNEW he was walking into the kind of mess culturally that everyone seems to say was apparent to anyone who wasnt blind.

Should i expect to see that kind of urgency after this year? Should a Tennessee like turnaround be expected next year with the right moves? Or….. is this more of a UCLA type build? And if so, can you guys live with that?

He couldn’t see the deficiencies beyond his big swinging **** touting TVD as the best QB in the country…

Please stop with this bullcrap (and that's not a personal comment, it's a reflection of the argument itself).

Mario hit the transfer portal **** hard. I don't even understand the half-analysis that goes into that kind of statement. "Hitting the portal hard" doesn't guarantee that kids pick you, the kids have a decision to make too (and without nearly the length of time to make visits and a decision that high school kids have).

Outside of getting his two best transfers from the school he just left behind, Slingblade Billy didn't do a great job in the portal. Nor did Mike Norvell, though he got a couple of guys early when Miami and Florida were both in the "hiring a new staff" phase.

As for "hiring an OC that players across the country would SALIVATE to come play for", I fail to see the relevance in the short-term. Outside of Portal kids, the new OC hire would not have impacted our CURRENT roster very much at all. And if you are concerned about recruits "SALIVATING", I would point out that we have the #6 recruiting class right now, so I'm not sure how much "better" things would be IN CURRENT RECRUITING if we had not hired Gattis (and I am not even advocating for or supporting Gattis, just wondering who else should have been hired that meets these criteria).

Sure, there may be some long-term impacts, but I really don't think that our on-field talent would be much different for this year. In fact, the benefit of hiring a "big-name" OC (that might not be a perfect fit for UM) is that his reputation precedes him. Hiring some unknown, but up-and-coming, OC might be a better fit, but it doesn't guarantee recruits right off the bat.

And don't even get me started on how myself and others were SHOUTED DOWN when we mentioned that Dorsey had a standing offer from Mario for the OC position. Maybe recruits might "SALIVATE" over Dorsey now, but a couple of months ago our own fans were saying that Dorsey was unqualified.

Fair. More than fair. Ok. You kicked my ***. No problem. With what is known now, where do you see this thing in year two?

Think he over estimated the talent level here and also blew the coordinator hires. In this era with the portal how can the university of miami not have found a half decent MLB these past 2 seasons.
Here is 247’s 2022 Transfer Rankings at LB. Who would you have liked?

No, it's all good, sir. I wasn't intending to kick your a$$, I'm just frustrated (and the games haven't helped). I tried to edit my post a bit to be more clear, I'm not mad at you, I'm just mad at the concept that Mario didn't try hard enough to get more Portal help.

I fully agree that we didn't hit a home run with Gattis. I'm not sure who would have been hired instead.

That is all. And, look, I'm also a critic of the tight formations and other aspects of Gattis's playcalling.

I'm hurt, dog.

But Mario made it very clear that we needed a talent infusion, and we chased a bunch of good Portal kids. We just didn't get enough guys (or the right guys) at a couple of spots. But Colbie Young has been a revelation!

I think on paper Gattis looks great. He has stats and hardware to prove it. However he has not shown that at Miami. We also have to keep in mind all the injuries the offense has suffered this year.

He was too busy hiring a coaching staff months after everyone else to evaluate the roster.

This isn't really the right, or only, thing to blame. We also have players who SHOULD HAVE left and given us more scholarships to re-award, and there were a few guys we COULD HAVE gotten from the Portal, but we had a completely new AD/coaching situation, and some of them went with "tried-and-true" coaching staffs at other schools.

It happens. You don't always hit a grand slam in your first at-bat.
