If Kam Kinchens and James Williams stayed for their Senior year, do we win the chip?

No. Our flaws were deeper than just starting safety, though the secondary was of course the most glaring. DB, LB, DT and a scheme that accounted for communication breakdowns.

I do agree that we were one or two players away from one more win, which would at least have made us a playoff team and then who knows?

As @KingB02 pointed out, having Taylor back along with Kam and James would have really helped. This isn't really the case with Kam, but James and Taylor sure show the lose-lose-lose side of leaving early. They lost money (NIL vs NFL contract). They lost draft postion (If Williams and Taylor came back, Williams likely gets drafted higher (if he logs some snaps at LB) and Taylor gets drafted (if he stopped taking so many plays off)). The team lost a chance to make a run in the playoffs.

We make the playoff but that’s it. The only thing championship level on the team was the OL QB rooms. Maybe TE cause it’s a small room and arroyo was a dude. Maybe WR but we still didn’t have a dude that was a get outta my way type. Defense even with those two lacked talent on the line and linebacker was meh and that’s being nice. Coaching left a little to be desired as we ran out of answers.

Compare our squad to the deep playoff run teams. Just not as much high end talent. Oregon was run outta the gym by taint. Penn state and lame were elite on defense. Smu looked exactly as expected once they hit the playoff. Texas had talent at every level of offense and defense and their trenches were great.

Any ways you get my point. Too many holes. Needed a more well rounded team with more top end talent that can make plays by themselves with the ball in their hand

Also the defense was slow and stupid in the backend. A bad combo

Needed those two flagg and taylor we'd made acc ship and got to atleast the 2nd round of the playoffs idk about winning it all though

Still lose to GT, but beat Syracuse.

If we lost to Clemson, we'd be in the same spot as SMU?...which was the easier path.
Although I didn't think Penn State wasn't as good as their ranking, playing up there would have been tough.

If we got past them, we beat Boise then play ND, where Leonard would give us fits.

Best case, we lose to ND in the Semi's.
Most likely, we lose at Penn State in the first round.
However, SMU did move the ball. Jennings doing his best Vinnie impersonation didn't help.

Not winning a championship, but its an interesting question.

We had issues at LG and DT too. And we lost LT and Cohen to undrafted free agency (and Matt Lee to the 7th round of the draft).

So lets say that LT, Cohen, Kam and Williams all returned AND we added everyone else we ended up with (take your pick on Lee or Carpenter).

With all those guys back you'd have to think that we at least split with GT and Syracuse, which puts us in the ACCCG. I think we win the ACC, which gives a top 4 seed, a first round bye.

The 2 seed comes down to a 12-1, possibly 13-0 Miami vs 11-2 UGA that lost its starting QB.

If we get that 2 seed, we'd play Notre Dame in the quarterfinals
Beat Notre Dame and we'd play Penn State AT HOME in the semifinals.

That's best case scenario.
