For those who really analyze other programs, please project the 5 top DL's in the country for next season. I would have to believe that ours would be up there, but then again, I haven't done the research. I assume that Clemson, BAMA, FSU, MICH and the *'s with the new Bosa, would be up there.

Please rank 'em!

Here's my amateur guess for best DL's of 17':

1. Canes - I know this is a homer pick, but guys, coach Kool + ALL of our studs returning + Bethel gets into the act + Patchan gets into the act = we top the list.
2. MICH
3. CLEMSN
4. BAMA
5. FSU

Thoughts?

Washington, USC, LSU, are all talented on the DLine with returning guys.

We should be in the mix with all the teams mentioned no homer at all

Top ten? Yeah I could see that. Fsu has a talented dline as they have posted the most sacks in the country with 47. However they will take a hit losing Demarcus walker and possibly Derrick nandi

Yeah, I thought the NOLES lost some key starters, which is why I put them at 5.

Is Washington's DL really that good?

Don't know. The best dlineman in the country is ed Oliver and houstons dline should be good if Todd Orlando stays

Top 10 is a possibility. Players have to actually dominate though in order to get that kind of recognition, not just flash once or twice in a game.

I'm not sure Michigan will be on that list, because they lose all 11 starters on defense, pending that Peppers enters the draft.

If you factor in 2017 recruits along with returning Lineman...

Bama, Oh St, Texas, Clemson, Miami, FSU, Penn State, Oklahoma & LSU will all have stacked DL's in terms of pure talent...

What their actual productivity will be is another argument entirely.

Potential is there for a top 5 D line but they've got to be more consistent. Getting pressure without blitzing is imperative if this defense wants to go from good to great. They racked up sacks against Duke and FAU but struggled getting pressure against UNC, VT and ND. I'm expecting an even bigger improvement next season.

I'll go top 10, but #1 is a bit much. As yet, we don't have a terrifying guy that OCs gameplan for. Until one of our guys steps up to the point he can change the game by himself, I think there will always be better DLs out there. What I think we will have is a DL strong enough to carry our weak secondary to a degree that allows us to win 10+ games. And, barring significant freshman/JUCO help, that's really saying something.

If he makes a little progress over the summer, I think you're right. Not sure that would make us #1 , but it'd help and be a ton of fun to watch.
