I keep hearing how Miami can't complete with the top NCAA programs.

If just armed with knowledge gleaned from reading this board one might think the U was up against all the other second tier schools and the big bad elite programs that are so untouchable they actively provide $$$$ and steroids to their prospects while the NCAA watches to make certain the needles are disposed of properly.

This is folklore my friends.

You mean like Barry's last report in the Miami Herald where it was expressed that Miami cannot pay for recruits like other teams can?

You mean this blurb that the chicken littles are running with:
"Privately, UM people from the past two regimes said they can’t get a few of the top players who are inclined to take illegal payments in the corrupt world of college athletics. "

He also mentions, much more substantively btw.."Unlike the 1980s, top players can go to schools that were at one time lower profile (like UCF) and know they will be on TV a lot. That has leveled the field in some ways. " and "But here’s the biggest challenge for Diaz: Winning games begets winning in recruiting. And UM hasn’t done enough winning for 15 years. "

I don't give a flying you know what what the past 2 regimes said about illegal payments. The past 2 regimes were ******* losers and ******* losers are always looking for ways to deflect. Especially ways that simply cannot be verified.

I promise that all things equal the past two regimes would have had a very hard time competing with top schools anyway.

It's a fact that Patrick Peterson was going to come to UM until LSU paid him. My friend played for the cardinals briefly and told me all about it - somewhere in the six figure range. This is a game of inches and every single advantage counts. Is money everything? No. Lots of richer programs have sucked longer than we have. But to say it doesn't have a big impact is a fallacy.

Of course they can't be verified, but if there is enough smoke and enough ********* then why have there never been investigations into Bama. LSU, UGA, and others that made it clear as day what is going on.

Bama with the deer antler spray - nothing happens
5 SEC teams have players on an agents payroll with ledger balances and names - nothing happens (broke by the same Yahoo reporter that broke Nevin's Miami story)
Bama players paid for autographs on video - nothing happens,
Ole Miss gets hit with sanctions - overturned after a year and the other teams that paid Leo Lewis including Miss St. who admitted to it had all their names redacted in the report.
Tunsill admits on live tv at the NFL draft he was paid by coaches - nothing happens until Ole Miss gets hit 2 years after when Freeze was calling hookers.
Bama caught paying players and illegal contact with recruits - allowed to fire a single dline coach to fix it (Tressell gets a 5 year no show clause at OSU)
So when the stories and smoke mount up, its more than *********.

Put an attractive product on the field... this city has the vibe to sell it nationally, unlike any other city in the country... outside of maybe LA

The University does not financially support the athletic department like it used to. They try to sell Miami as an academic school to students first, football second. Other schools like Alabama,Texas, Clemson sell football first and they pump money into the program. That's fact
