At first i thought he would be a bad hire in part because i didn't watch him at fiu and i went by what y'all were saying.

But he wouldn't be that bad after digging up some fiu games and looking at coaching hires he made.

When he got the job fiu was only a d1 team for 3 years. His best years was 2010 and 2011 he took them to 2 bowls the only 2 in school history. The ad that fired him was stupid.

He got offered the hc job at rutgers but turned it down. http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2012/01/mario_cristobal_turns_down_off.html

He hired good coaches for the chump change a fiu. His first oc there is at marshall and his 2nd oc is the hc at app st.

He had solid defenses at fiu and good DCs. Geoff collins who left for mississippi st. and is dc at uf and todd orlando is at houston and he had elite defenses at utah st. the last couple of years.

Dude has been under butch and saban and he knows from them and showed it at fiu he knows how to make good hires as far as coaching staffs.

He understands miami football and is a elite recruiter. Your head coach doesn't have to be a former great coordinator but a guy who can recruit and be a ceo and someoone that can pull the best out of his players.

He wouldn't be my first choice but if you strike out on the top 3 guys i would give him a shot.

I believe his first OC is at UM. James Coley... And it took Collins a while mature... Cristobal isn't a HC. He always incredibly underachieved in 2012 which prompted his dismissal. Dude couldn't develop talent, he lost control of his team and he didn't know how to game plan.

He didn't underachieve in 2012 the best players from 2010 and 11 were gone. Fiu isn't a program you can just reload and keep going.

As far as developing talent he had other guys besides t.y. drafted. I think he had a safety go in the 2nd round.

You don't get it. We're in a sticky situation right now. We just can't take the chance... We need a proven coach. Different situation? Yea maybe. If we were winning.. But we're not and we haven't in a long time.

We need Butch Davis.

I know the situation and i agree 100% on butch but i was saying take the chance if you miss on 3 or 4 guys. Sarkisian was 6th on usc list, 5 other coaches turned them down. Strong was not top 3 on texas list.

Doesn't matter who we hire the key is the coordinators the head coach hires and the money these cheap muther****ers give him to pay them this crucial!!!!

Here is all you need to know about Mario. UM offered him a job, he accepted. He then said I was only kidding and accepted a job with Alabama 6 weeks later. We needed the MF'er for local recruiting but his previous ties to the U didn't matter to him even though we were the ONLY one offering him a job at the time. Now he did get screwed by the AD at FIU (Pete Garcia) who had an over sized ego but the U offered a rescue for him personally based on his past ties to the U. He chose Alabama over family. I may be old school but that never felt right to me. I would pass on him for that alone.

To the OP I think you are afraid the administration might actually make this call and you're trying to make yourself feel good about an obviously bad potential hire

+1

There's not another Div I school in the nation that would even consider Mario as HC of their program. Cristobal would be a horrific choice to replace Golden.

I actually wouldn't have a huge problem with Mario if he hired savages as his OC and DC. I don't think there would be a repeat of Al Golden's passive BS scheme on defense and I think he would also let Brad Kaaya loose on offense. We already know he's a great recruiter (or at least he's great when he works on Nick Saban's staff) so assuming he's not a complete disaster on game day, there are clearly candidates who would be worse.

Who paid u to type that bull**** saban?

"But he wouldn't be that bad"

Yeah, that's how you decide on coach . You'll be assured of landing a winner that way.

In his defense, he chose Nick Saban over Al Golden. If you wanted another crack at a HC gig, who would you choose? Part of me thinks he got here, saw Golden corch for 6 weeks & took the first offer than got him the **** out of dodge. Don't even blame him. No thanks on being our HC though... Judas. Lol
