Besides my serious concern about a no name ST coach (Danny Kalter), why is Cam Ward highly ranked and considered our best option? If you look at 2023 QB ratings for 2023 TVD was 32nd and Cam 50th (Mertz was 36th). If you look at the stats for his games at Washington State they are mediocre at best. I looked at his game stats from 2023 and their 5-7 record and he appears to slack off in the second half scoring-wise. I want to believe the off season hype train but I'm still in the station waiting for it to pull out and show us something. Before players started bailing and we went to the portal for depth I liked our recruits and our QB room. Now that Cam is the probable starter my confidence is shot based on his stat sheet. Can anyone explain how the 50th rated QB from 2023 is suddenly a prime candidate to make our season great? Do our coaches have the balls to start someone over Cam?
We have the tools, do we have the right conductor for the Hurricane train of 2024?

Better teams pull away in the second half of games, right?

Ward—on a bad, less-talented team. Ends up 5-7.

TVD—on a more talented team with a great OL and solid weapons. Ends up 7-5.

Teams pulled away from WSU in the second half because teams schemed up better over the half and WSU didn’t have the talent to keep up. Cam can’t do it alone.

We had the opposite problem and lost games in the second half because, despite having more talent, turnovers made us fall short. You put Cam in that position and we likely finish with a better record.

TLDR: Cam can’t win games alone, and his game will elevate with a top 15 roster around him.
