Here's a quick look at two trendlines:

1. Players from a class who never arrived
2. Players from a class who left within two seasons

Per the first category, we've improved on this immensely. Both Shannon and early-Al Golden repeatedly took kids who never saw the practice field for the U. The only player who fell into that category in recent years was Asa Martin.

For the second, this number is a little inflated in the last two years by transfers:

2014: 2 transfers (Patrick O'Donnell, Ryan Williams)
2015: 1 transfer (Jake Heaps)
2016: 2 transfers (Adrian Colbert, Dayall Harris)
2017: 1 transfer (Dee Delaney)
2018: 2 transfers (Venzell Boulware, Tito Odenigbo)
2019: 8 transfers (Jaelen Phillips, Asa Martin, Bubba Bolden, Tate Martell, Trevon Hill, K.J. Osborne, Chigozie Nnoruka, Tommy Kennedy)

Looking back, the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2016 classes were killers. Losing over 40% of the class within two years is an astoundingly high figure and serves to rob the team of veteran leadership.

EXACTLY WHY WE NEEDED HIGHSMITH. THE GUY CAN EVALUATE SO WE REDUCE WHIFFING.

BUT, BUT, BUT, he was only in the NFL and I don't know how to use Google to see what teams he worked for and when, and college football is completely different, and the job description was not yet defined, and there were complex issues of stock compensation and profit-sharing bonuses to work out, and the fanbase only wants Alonzo because he is a Miami guy, and excuse excuse excuse....

it's not a mystery why we can't compete.
We have to get the roster back to full strength and actually offer and sign kids that can actually qualify and contribute.

Part of the problem is that our program is such a **** show, that juniors who should be staying for their senior year abandon ship with nondraftable or late grade projections. That falls on the coaching, administration and, general lack of direction of the program. Clearly a lot of these guys don’t believe that staying is worth their while. Garvin, Thomas, Bandy, Norton, Boulware and, Yearby come to mind immediately.
