Complete a crossing route with a pick play or have QB scramble for 10 yards.... man Donofrio is so reactionary.... When he gets punched he regresses...i like how he kept blitzing but He has our players switching from press man to off man to zone so much out heads were spinning on those final two drives... i dont think they got comfortable.. Also he had Carter playing back so far that our safeties cant make a play on the ball... I will give him the benfit of the doubt because Bush was out...bu I dont even think that warrants an excuse. This dont give up the deep ball for a TD is killing me

Here is a note to college coaches... Im talking to you Golden..IT doesnt matter if you leave them 2 minutes with no timeouts or 3 minutes with 1 timeout...Because of college rules of stopping the clock after every first down...they will have enough time to score... Pass the ball on 3rd and 1 when they are sending everybody crashing into the line

That's pretty much how you get anybody out of press-man coverage.

Mesh routes are stereotypical "man beaters". (like HulkaCaniac's right hand)

Awww, how cute Corch Nacho. Maybe you can take that information to your next pop Warner gig.

JCarter is an in the box SS imo. Should have had RJenkins back there.

No. If you have a good pass rush and tough physical corners who are taught the right jamming technique you can throw those crossing and pick patterns off. You also need to teach DE's and LB'rs containment and tackling technique. Stop going for the knockout blow all the time and grab the ball carrier and slow him down for your team mates.

I mean, yeah, you describe how to disrupt crossing and rub routes but saying that's not how you beat man coverage isn't true. You'll see those combinations against predominantly man teams from high school on up and that's because they work. Most teams don't have corners/safeties across the board that can jam that well all game (in the slot, no less) AND have a pass rush that gets home frequently. The rules don't exactly favor physical corners right now, either. When you do, you have a dominant defense. While that's the goal, dominant defense in this age of offense is rare for a reason.

Awesome, coach!

I was talking about how the offense (strategically attempts to) beat press-man, not how the defense attempts to defend mesh routes.

Thanks though.

And FYI...

It's hard to jam slot receivers when they're off the ball and running an in-breaking route.

Go robber or cover 1, keep a FS or Mike in the middle to help redirect the route. Corner takes inside or outside technique respectively.
