How lucky are we Al Golden was fired this year, and not last year? This year the administration appears to be willing to spend enough money to hire a top coach and staff. I'll wait to see who speaks at the introductory press conference for proof, but there is hope.

If Golden been fired after last season does anyone think the same fiscal belt-loosening would been discussed?

Not with Shalala around.

Miami would have hired with another 'rising young coach' bought on the cheap. The only positive would have been her holding a grudge against Mario for his jump to Alabama, thus eliminating him from consideration.

There should be a GoFundMe effort to buy a nice Christmas present for Dabo Swinney.

8-4 might not have gotten Golden fired. Let's all be grateful he got fired when he did.

The downside to this year is that there are an absurd number of openings this year compared to last years. There were hardly any job openings last year. To get a great coach with this number of good openings will definitely cost more than it would have last year, but I certainly agree that they'll be allowed to spend a lot more.

I like Scott but the 8 wins was mostly on the players rather than the coaches so all I have to say is "Thank You Dabo"...

This. It's not like Larry Scott is some X's and O's genius. Without the Dabo beat down and the banners we are probably looking at another year of Golden.

My post wasn't about Larry Scott, but he did provide leadership. The team would have quit on Golden after the Clemson game and gone 0-5. Scott's job was to get through the season and he did so with a 4-1 record. I'm not advocating Scott be given the HC job beyond the bowl game, but give credit where due.

Scott could land a HC job, but not at a top ranked program. He has to pay his dues. He won't go from TE/interim HC to HC at a major program. But, he does deserve consideration for a step up somewhere, maybe as a HC in Division 2 or 3. Or he could keep building experience as a position coach in Division 1, then move up to OC, and then finally DC. I think the first scenario is more likely. In any case, with so many openings this year, Scott deserves consideration for some of the lesser jobs that open up as coaches move up to better jobs. As has already been written, no way UM goes 8-4 if Folden had stayed, or if Fatso or Colon had be named interim HC.
