How do you take a penalty when you have someone 4th and 11... Correction it was 4 & 8 and you should take the penalty

I thought maybe we didn't have that option. Talked about with my sweetheart. She said it.

WTF for not taking 4-11.
 
I think the thought process was that they were likely going to go for it, so make it for 3rd and 23 or whatever and then make it 4th and long. They hit a big play and negated it obviously. I wasn’t as mad at it as the FG and the botched 2 minute drill at the end of the half. Going into HT up 28-7 and we get a 3 and out and go 35-7 is a whole different final 25 minutes of the game. It matters tremendously
 
It would have been 4th & 8, not 4th & 11.

2 downs to give up less than 24 yards or 1 down to give up less than 8 yards? Odds are better for the former.

Had either Dunnigan or Poyser made an easy tackle WF would have had 4th and 13 from the 32.

yeah, this was obviously the correct decision. i knew as soon as lopez got a few yards on the scramble that we'd take the penalty. you trust your defense not to give up 20 god**** yards on 3rd and 24 and we blew it there, but hey. got the 4th down stop anyway.
 
Also, we were absolutely dominating their OL on that drive. Dunnigan hit Lopez and nearly sacked him on first. 3 guys sacked him on 2nd down. Scott would have sacked him on the first 3rd down had he not been held for multiple seconds. Toure and Blount both hit him and nearly sacked him on the second 3rd down. Dunnigan hit him again on 4th down. They couldn't block our pass rush. If it was a close call (this one wasn't) you 100% make them run another play when you're living in their backfield because the odds that you force a fumble or get a pick are at their highest.

Definitely. I thought watching it live it would’ve been about 4th and 6. But I didn’t see exactly where they spotted it. Lopez tightroped the sideline pretty good, I thought he got it to about 6 yards to go and, if so, you clearly make it 3rd and 24 in that situation. Correct call imo, again assuming it was going to be about 4th and 6.
 
If I remember correctly it would have been 4&11... if it was 8 or 6 then I understand, but my boy and I were watching like wtf it's already more than 10
 
Lost in this discussion is that Mario was afraid Wake would convert 4th & 8… but chose to kick a 54 yard field goal on 4th & 4.
