How did we not land him?

Hey, he has Washington State ranked. I’m not saying I’d want him over Pastor Richt but Leach would have been better more entertaining than Shannon or Golden.

because for every upset win they have games like this

This is the only reason anyone has ever stood up for Mike Leach. People don't mind going 8-4 as long as they score a bunch of points in those 8 wins and he has some funny press conference quotes.

His supporters also love to pull the “he would score 80 a game with elite players” argument.

Leach was an excellent hire. For Washington State.

If you're Washington State or Texas Tech, 8 win seasons are enough to satisfy the fans. Leach doesn't recruit at a high enough level to win big at a powerhouse program. His whole offensive philosophy is tailored around the fact that he can't draw top athletes. He even admitted that he doesn't use tight ends because big guys who can run are in short supply and he can't recruit them. He cares nothing for defense either. I think he's an entertaining character and would probably be cool to get drunk with but his shtick would have worn thin at Miami fast. Yeah, he's better than Golden but is that really saying anything? Everyone is better than that bum.

He definitely would have been better than Gluten. There’s no doubt.

But had we hired him, we would have also had to fire him eventually after realizing his ceiling is 9 wins with a couple of head scratching losses each year.

And firing Mike Leach would not have been pretty. All his funny press conference jokes would have turned to bitterness and a lot of media attention on him badmouthing Miami. He also would have written a tell-tale scathing book against Miami complete with book tour.

Only a desperate program with nothing to lose should ever hire Leach. He’s a walking time bomb.

LOL at moron clowns wanting us to have hired this powder keg.

He is over rated but I can't help but like him. He would be fun as **** to get drunk with. Anyone who has a problem with that is just a chest thumper. Don't want him in my locker room but he's histerical

How is the guy overrated when he’s coached at two of the worst football programs historically and turned them both into top 25 teams. Washingon State was 0-12 before he showed up and Texas Tech has always been the poos. There’s no doubt in my mind that he would’ve out performed Folden as a coach here. Hate all you want all the man does is win at ****** *** schools.

Never understood this mindset.

Spike Dykes positioned TT as a respectable (better than .500) team on a year-in year-out basis for about 13 years before Leach came on the scene. Dykes' teams were a consistent thorn in the sides of TAMU and UT--they beat ranked Aggie and Longhorn teams several times. Dykes is the one who turned TT around, built them up from nothing.

Granted, Leach improved on that--but it ain't like TT was a bottom-feeder when he took over.

Same with the situation at Wazzu. Sure, they were crap for the 8 years before Leach arrived, but they had known some moderate success before that..they finished in the top 20 seven times between '88 and 2002. And Leach hasn't done that it his 5 years there...and may not do it this year either, given that they've still got Stanford and UW to get through.

The obsession of this guy, particularly on a Miami board, is super weird.

I think is ending up with Randy instead of him that caused it. I was never a big fan of his but I know my oldest son wanted him and Trump tried to get Donna to hire him. In hindsight, it would have been nice to hang 100 points on all these stuffed shirt ACC clowns.

... and to also deal with a defense that gave up 102 points. You see Washington State against Cal or Arizona this year? Defensive players may as well lay down on the field Gator Flop-style.

Like I said, I was never a big fan of his and that is why. Hard to play defense when your offense puts you back on field so fast-- even if it is after a score.

Yeah, but his defenses aren't bad because his offenses score too quickly. His defenses are bad because he doesn't know/care about how to coach defense.

That just makes them extra bad.
