Not surprised to see transfers but a bit surprised that BOTH Lecomte and Burnett decided to split. Always like local kids that get a chance to play for the program, but thought Deandre was a bit of a volume shooter or my liking. Could fill it up in a hurry at times, but very little court awareness and low basketball IQ. Would have helped depth wise at best. Could see him at a place like USF.

Was probably a bit more bearish on Lecomte. His injury combined with Newton's emergence was probably the final nail in his coffin. Played huge at Cameron when we beat Duke and felt that Coach L and his staff did great work over the summer last year between his frosh and sophomore years. Really solid mid-range shooter but his lack of size and tenacity at the defensive end really hinders him. Truly believe he will be courted by quite a few programs nationally.

The big coup (if you'd like to call it that) is that Ja'Quan Newton is going to be the beneficiary. I was concerned as the season progressed that he was getting discouraged by the lack of playing time, and with all due respect to Manu and Dre, he's a far better player on both ends. I truly believe he pushes Angel for the starting PG spot and will play major minutes at both guard positions next year. With the extra schollies, I also think Coach L makes a run at a transfer or two.

PG: Angel/Newton
SG: Reed/ Lawrence
SF: Mac/Palmer
PF: Murphy/Sherman
C: Tonye/Cruz Uceda

That's a really solid 10 and could be enhanced by an addition or two.

Look for us to aggressively target one of the two dozen remaining bigs in the 2015 class as well as a transfer

I guess this is the new college basketball. One and dones, 2 and dones, and transfers. I know we're not at a point where we don't have to go after transfers to be successful, but hopefully we get to a point where we can rely mostly on kids we get out of HS.

2. Miami is beyond fine for next season despite losing two transfers: The Hurricanes lost two players in the past week --- Manu Lecomte and Deandre Burnett --- who were quality pieces in Miami's rotation, but also replaceable ones. The truth is this: the Hurricanes had seven capable perimeter players for three spots this past season and now they have five. This team will have better role allocation next year as a result and should be a Top 20 squad nationally and one that could legitimately compete for a spot in the top third of the ACC. The recent departures at Duke, Louisville, and Notre Dame have opened up the conference after North Carolina. Expect the Hurricanes to take advantage. Jim Larranaga has five quality perimeter pieces in Angel Rodriguez, Ja'Quan Newton, Sheldon McClellan, Davon Reed and James Palmer while Tonye Jekiri, Omar Sherman, and Ivan Cruz Uceda return on the interior. The X-Factor for this group? Oklahoma State transfer Kamari Murphy. The 6-9, 220-pound power forward averaged 6.1 points and 6.3 rebounds two years ago in the Big 12 and immediately fills a void for Miami. The Hurricanes were probably one win short of reaching the NCAA Tournament and wound up finishing in the NIT where it lost to Stanford in the finals. That won't happen a year from now. This squad is poised to reach the field of 68 in 2016.
