Hillery and Herbert

McKinney was right when he called out both of them last year for their attitude. Hebert had a precipitous fall from a co starter at RT to start camp to opting out. Hillary was always a JAG. OL is very difficult to project from HS and the star system is often wrong.

McKinney and Rhomberg met with OL during Fall last year to discuss communication and technique. Both said Hillary and Hebert weren’t interested in learning and dismissed their advice. It was weird to hear former players calling out current ones and referring to them by their jersey # instead of their names out of disrespect. Basically said that last years OL problems were in large part due to the lack of preparation and film study from lazy players like a Hillary and Hebert along with the type of technique OL coach was teaching.

The recruiting and playing more talented OL over former OL coach Butch Barry’s favorites paid dividends against UAB. I realized when the Coach Garin Justice decided to keep the transfer highly regarded Williams at RT, and keep Campbell at LT, the Canes will have a much improved OL. Garin Justice never saw a need to move Williams to LT. Both Williams and Campbell are also much more athletic than Clark and Nelson, which leads to a much higher ceiling and more room to grow and develop as the season progresses. Removing Hillary and Herbert From the two-deep depth chart, and the move of Clark and Nelson to backup roles, was another sign that the Canes OL will be better. In addition, Ousman Troere is much stronger and more talented than Clark and will not get bullied or dominated like our starters were last season.

Our OL is vastly improved under Garin Justice, and since they are more talented, the OL should get a whole lot better by the end of the season. I think the OL will surprise some people and there might be a couple of OLs that will make one of the All ACC Teams

Herbert has been a major disappointment, but that's how it goes with linemen. You never really know. Hillery... eh. They won't be back.
