Have you guys wrapped your head around what USC and LSU did?

I know other threads have covered some of this. But seriously, think about this long and hard.

Riley was in the midst of a Big 12 Championship race and USC clearly was like. We don't give a f. Lets go get our man.

Now I just heard Riley claim that Sunday Morning after the OKA St game was the very first time USC approached him. Right buddy sure.....

ND can with the right breaks make the playoff. LSU was like Who cares. Lets go get our man.

The Rumor out there is lets let Mario finish his season. BS.

Now my hope is everything is in place once the trigger is pulled on Manny. Why is that trigger not pulled yet?

I know this has been discussed ad nauseum on this board, but this is what message boards are for.

Bravo to USC and LSU. We can only hope that we have 1/8 of an impact with a new coach. Or we just go with

Building Something Special buzz phrase and hope it all works out.

gotta give them credit. You think LSU would wait around for Mario and would be concerned about his press conferences?

notre dame is still potentially in line for the playoffs! never thought I would see a coach leave notre dame for another college job. It’s never happened before.
 
I’ll give you that it’s pretty stunning, but conversely look at UF they grabbed a G5 guy. Point is I’m not overly concerned about what we’re doing right now.
FWIW a buddy of mine who’s a big Ole Miss guy and by “big” I’m mean he’s a fat *******, not connected, says all his fellow Toddy fans think Lane is gone if Miami calls.

You gotta stop comparing what other programs are doing vs what’s going on here.

Last time we rushed something we ended up with Manny because James panicked… I’d rather take our time and get the people we are targeting.

You said it yourself in the post that you don’t believe Sunday was the first time Riley was contacted by USC and your correct…same goes for Kelly.

Well according to Chris Stock, it's more about the coaches themselves than the schools. Supposedly Mario likes to "do things the right way" and whatnot. Which would make sense. A lot of people have said Brian Kelly is a sleezeball as well. No clue about Lincoln Riley.

I get where you're coming from. I really do. But also, they do need to get this right. Just going after some random big name and splashing an insane amount of cash doesn't really always equate to winning. LSU was only a few years off of a natty and already fired their coach. Most $EC schools have to pay ridiculous buyouts and waste money constantly changing coaches. We get it, you guys say that Miami does have money, etc. Again, you see schools like Texas get a coach like Herman and get rid of him quickly and now they owe the man 10's of Millions of dollars.

I'm not saying one approach is better than the other, but just because we haven't already signed him prior to Oregon's conf playoff game or whatever, doesn't mean that 1) they already haven't tried or 2) they don't already have some kind of agreement.

You need both money and the know how. A lot of schools only have the money(texas schools, Tenn, etc), and for the past 15 years or so we have had neither.

I would not want a coach around my program that walked away from his team on the door step of the CFP. Kelly deserves any and all failures that come his way at LSU. And there's plenty of tales out of bayou about making deals with the devil and where that leads.

These kinds of moves rarely happen. These are pretty big time and change the landscape of college football just as there is a realignment in the sport anyway. Pretty seminal year in CFB post-COVID tbh.

It is one of the reasons I keep saying how important it is to sign a big time coach like Cristobal or Kiffin...yeah, they are pretty good and all...but they are also big name, big move coaches that generate buzz. A head coach moving from a Top 10 team in the nation coming to Miami is a big time move that tells the country Miami is back, too. Now, whether it really is or not is a different story...but the optics would be big. The ACC could very well be wide open with Brent Venebles maybe going to Oklahoma.

And that is a totally legit point that I should have made. Fair. I guess part of the frustration is that our coach even has a job at 7-5, losing to FSU the way he did, losing his O coord.... They use the excuse now that we dont have an AD...... Fine whatever, I'm starting to think firing James was to buy time for Manny
 
Listen to the wording of the answers. USC never talked to Riley. If the follow up question wasn’t did they contact your agent, then his answer means nothing.

Think of it like kids going to the portal. They don’t enter the portal Thursday and decide overnight to go to a particular school Friday.
