Happy thought of the day, but with a caution: OL gets better

Because of the OL recruiting, plus S&C, plus nutrition, plus the OL transfer from TENN, I am actually optimistic about our OL next year.

From all accounts, we will be more athletic and physically dominant next year in the O trenches.

The million dollar question we all have: is Searles the right guy for the job?

True, the OL on the balance of the season seemed "improved" from the previous year, but not by leaps and bounds. Seems like Searles' squad did juuuuuuuuuuust enough to keep him out of hot water, but his unit is still not nearly as effective as we need it - especially with the power run game, which is important to Richt.

I think this is the year Searles' unit either takes a significant step forward, or we need to find a new OL coach. Still, I'm an optimist, so I say (read: hope) that the OL gels this year and helps take all of the skill position quality that we now have and turns this O into a juggernaught.

I like Searels the recruiter, but I think the jury is still out on Searels the coach. Our O-Line seemed better in pass protection this year, but the run blocking left much to be desired. Hopefully the guys we have coming in early and the guys who have now been here a year get strong and get coached up. And Darling graduating will almost certainly improve the LG situation. I'm (cautiously) optimistic.

Offensive line is one of the hardest positions for young guys to contribute. If I am not mistaken we had two true freshmen start this past year. We had a couple guys leave the program and lacked depth. Searles has done a good job, need more bodies and size.

Only replacing two on left side

Right side should dominate

How do we look?
