If in fact the thread Geo posted is true and Golden is fired Monday. Doug Marrone is available, I'm not mad if they go after him.

Today taught me that schemes NOT TALENT win championships in this day and age. FSU and Bama are the two most talented teams by far on paper and they both lost to two read option teams (one with a 3rd string qb)! Unless Butch runs a read option, we probably won't win championships with him.

Exactly...my understanding is he is very highly thought of in the NFL...not really sure why, but then again I don't really know much about the guy.

Butch is our answer. There is no reason to look anywhere else...

I wasn't fully on board with Butch till I began seeing him on ESPN. Dude still has the passion you need to coach.
 
So, consider me one of the few that initially thought "BBB" was short-sided thinking when his name was being brought up during the season. The expectations he would have to live up to would be so monumental, I think anything short of multiple MNC would be considers ho-hum by many.

However, my view on this has evolved as so too the situation in Coral Gables. Simply put, Butch is the only viable person at THIS STAGE in the game. Here's why:

1. BOT completely ****ed up the timing of the pending Golden firing - time to do it was after pitt loss, or last year depending on who you ask.

2. Transition of powers Shalala to TBD. This put excess strain on the BOT to make a decision on a coach that will ultimately be her for a few years which wasn't approved by the new President (I feel like this is giving too much power to the new prez. BOT needs to make decisions and act like a governing body, not defer to a president on matters of athletics)

3. Davis has been campaigning to get back in Miami. A proven commodity with a track record of elite success is begging to come back to an institution that notoriously underpays their employees. No brainer right

4. Davis is a perfect gap person for the short term future of the program. He more than likely will be willing to come into a role where he is given a fixed number of years (something you couldn't do with someone who is younger), and be allowed to hand pick and groom a future Head Coach in waiting which can serve as an OC or DC while Butch is rebuilding. This would allow for the BOT to make a decision which would not force a coach on an incoming president, and will give the president some power to yay or nay any future coach.

5. If rumors are accurate with this ex-Nato guy being the new President, him and Butch are tight.
 
There's no way Butch gets hired at UM!!! His ties to the Carolina scandal is too toxic for UM. If there's a change at Miami it will be Christobal.

Did you even pay attention to that scandal, Butch was never tied to any of it. It was a problem that had been going on for a long time before Butch

Its just that Butch Davis is a safe hire. We know what he is capable of. We know that Butch will have the necessary "street cred" to recruit the top sough Florida kids. Sure there are better options out there but going that way presupposes that our non-existent president and clueless board of trustees will get it right on their next hire. I think most folks would rather take a guaranteed B+ hire than leave up to folks who've not proven they can do it right to find an A- or A+ hire.

Perception VS reality. I live in North Carolina, I know he's been cleared, but he's linked to that scandal. The BOT at Miami will shy away from Butch. Christobal would not be my first choice, but I'll take him over Folden any day!
