Good Summary of the Team on Grantland

If you don't think these classes are elite, you're just an idiot

There are 119 teams in the bowl subdivision

The 2014 incoming class of Miami Hurricanes will be almost assuredly be the 2nd time in the past 3 seasons that Al Golden has a class in the Top 11, according to the 247 composite (without question the most reputable source).

That puts them in the top 10% when it comes to acquiring talent.

The losing can be attributed to many things, including the fact that they have missed on some specific necessities, but to say that these classes aren't elite is purely ignorant on a litany of levels.

2 5 star running backs in the last 3 seasons
3 consecutive classes with an Elite 11 QB
Miami has probably recruited the offensive line better than anyone not named Alabama in the last 5 years.
A defensive backfield LITTERED with High School All-Americans
Chickillo, McCord, and AQM were ALL stud edge recruits
This '14 class has an inordinate amount of guys who can rush the passer at a very high level

Have they missed on an impact interior defensive line recruit? Most certainly, but I'm not of the belief that a miss in one area reduces a class to pedestrian status. There are PLENTY of schools who are fielding defenses with defensive tackles who have far lesser profiles than the ones we have and are succeeding.

Scheme...Youth...Lack of consistency at the most important position on the field

These are the reasons for our mediocrity. Not recruiting.

Here are Golden's first 2 full classes. You tell me which position is elite or is building towards becoming elite with those two classes:

You're arguing a totally different point than I am

A lot of the people on the outside looking in think Miami continually lands elite classes. Huge misconception.
yyyyeeaahhhh okkkkk buddy.. "Huge Misconception"

It is a huge misconception. Some people don't follow recruiting year round, you know. At Sunlife, Georgia and Virginia tech fans were chirping about how Miami gets all these elite classes but can't win the ACC.

We do get the 2nd best classes in the ACC almost every year. VTech, Duke would kill to have our classes.

They aren't elite, few are, but they are good enough to win the Coastal

I agree. But the word used was elite

do not believe this class ends up top ten. But in the header of the article, it says how does al golden land elite classes.... but his teams are average. That doesn't happen. 2011 and 2013 were not top ten. While the 2012 class signed 33 recruits. 2012 was good but looking at the avg. star ranking it was not a top ten class. Add that to the fact one of our best recruits (AJL) never made it to campus.
