We always hear D'Onfrio and Golden talking about not giving up the big play. We rarely see us give up the big pass which is great. Quite frankly, can't recall any recent ones. With that being said, we have given up a lot of big play runs because of the cushion our safties and sometimes linebackers give. Cook's second TD is a prime example of that. With the explosive firepower we have on offense there shouldn't be as much fear to give up the big pass on defense as we have the ability to strike back right away. Our LB's and S's have so far to run if the RB breaks the line of scrimmage that it always turns up to be a 7 plus yard run. How can Al continue to take that approach when our DL is the weak link on our team?

Bingo......

A big play takes seconds.

Drives that take 7, 8, 9 debilitating minutes takes it toll on your defense.

Not a bad post at all. I guess you can't stop everything (especially against the defending chance) and no matter what you have to gamble some where. If we had a good DL, we would have the best of both worlds. If we gave the Noles big pass plays, we wouldn't have had a chance Saturday, so its a toss up. You really can't stop the run without good DT's and ours are serviceable right now, but may be better next year with more time to develop and get in shape (Wyche).

It's every game though, not just this one. Good coaches find ways to neutralize their weaknesses (DL) and Al just continues to plow through with the formula that worked for him at Temple. If the DL sucks which it does, put more in the box to take some pressure off of them. Our DB's can handle themselves just fine in pass coverage.

Then the answer is more nickel and pack the two LB's in tight, it's just FSU was throwing about 2x as much as they were running so we sold out to stop that and then Cook got us. Still, with an average DL, we had the champs beat except for a freak batted ball td, missed easy kicks, a dropped td, and a fumble where our guy just dropped the ball. To me that is decent coaching, but there are still many areas players and coaches can improve. For once, the stage wasn't too big for our players and coaches and they were an inch away from winning this game on about 5 different occasions. It is frustrating and it sucks, but we are soooo close. This isn't the same team or coaching staff that lost to UL, GT, and NU. If we played our whole schedule again, I think we would be 9-1 with a looming rematch against FSU in the ACCCG...
