I asked for Urban and we got Manny. I know he's awful but was Blake James ordered to hire Manny or did he just do this all by his itty bitty lonesome? I mean, if Richt walked without a payout, we could've targeted anyone, right???
Does it really matter? At this point it's become institutional and it's all the same to me. Someone or "someones" continued the pattern here and let's just call it an institutional problem as many here have essentially said. No surprise, honestly. We never capitalize on our options. To quote Abba Eben, we "never miss an opportunity... to miss an opportunity."
Seriously... What better way to show that you're a supposedly genious head coach by taking a job in the country"s most talent-rich area and dominating after 15+ years of ineptness preceding you??? It's easy pickins for a killer on the recruiting trail.
The UGA board called this an awful, lazy hire. That board and F$U's were both thankful it wasn't Cristobal who they feared would shut down pipelines. Whoever it is, we needed someone they all feared. Instead we got someone they're celebrating. We needed someone with the clout to hire known quantities for staff. Instead we need to hope our newbie HC hits on the right up and comer as OC... or hires a stud no one wants for other issues.
That said, we are where we are and I want to support our team so I'm willing to give the guy 1 or 2 weeks before I seek and destroy our new coach. I don't blame Manny for taking the job but the job comes with us too... And after all these years, there's not much goodwill and/or patience left in the fanbase. That's not his fault, that's on the school, but he took the ball from them so now he owns it.
I'm going to watch who Manny fires and hires on offense. That will say a lot up front. It doesn't change the fact that I think we needed to go for the kill here. It doesnt change my view that right now Kendall Briles, as F$U's OC, is scarier than Manny as UM's HC.
... But these are the cards we've been dealt. Richt's gone and, regardless, I want the new man to succeed. That's more important than being right... Right?
