The article was unfortunately very accurate. Sobering, but true. And it’s nothing we haven’t been saying repeatedly on this forum - that attrition is killing us. Don’t know why anyone is mad at Barry for that.
I never thought of Redwine moving back to corner, but it makes sense (I might be the biggest Redwine hater on this board, but we need swingin’ ****s at CB). I suppose Red’s “versatility” gives us options in the secondary - see who steps up out of Smith/Amari/Dean and the incoming guys, get the best of that pack on the field, and put Redwine in the open position. Looks like Red is going to be a key player for us, one way or the other.
Another thought I had was that the CB issues might have an effect on Manny’s overall philosophy. We know he was leaning towards a 4-2-5, or some kind of nickel based package. I think most of us would agree that, at least in theory, this made sense, considering the pass first nature of CFB, and our iffy LB situation. But losing Young and lackluster secondary recruiting leave a numbers issue there, as well. I don’t know that our defense has an identity right now.
Some of that stuff will play itself out in spring practice, but our coaches are going to have to earn their paycheck. January 2018 threw them a nasty curveball.
