Fuente stays at VT

At one point he was a hot commodity. The question is whether he's a corch who lucked into success at Memphis or whether following Beamer is a tough hill to climb.

Nobody wants to hear that their coach is looking for another job. That would **** me off too.
Most knowledgeable VT fans believe Fuente saw the VT job as a stepping stone to a higher level P5 job. Thus him looking at other opportunities. They’ll probably never win an NC in Blacksburg. Beamer caught lightening in a bottle a couple of times but that’s more than likely their ceiling.

A little of both IMO. He’s not well liked by the fans especially replacing a guy like Beamer whom they worship.
On top of the fact he’s one of the most unlikable coaches in the business. Most of his colleagues can’t stand him & he doesn’t ingratiate himself with coaches on the HS level in recruiting either.

He’s a pompous *** & even VA Tech fans want him gone.

But VA Tech is strapped for cash due to the pandemic, they can’t afford to hire a new big name coach, they basically wanted Shane Beamer or they weren’t gonna get anybody else.

Here's an example of the disdain for Fuente. TE James Mitchell is from a very small school in a very small town in extreme SW VA. He was a high 4* recruit and the local newspaper did an interview with him on signing day. The first 2 things he mentioned was his parents wanted him close to home and to get a free great education. Never once did he mention Fuente and their fans were all over that.
