Watching the game vs NMST, they reminded me of our 1997 team, but at least Butch and his staff had legitimate reasons for that season.

Not in the least. We had legit talent on the squad & coming into the program in 97. We were just young and obviously our numbers were ****ed. Semenholes the only two I take off that squad is the desir kid who plays DT & danzi. Don't want nothing else including deuce.

I remember that team vividly. That was back in the day that I attended practice somewhat regularly before they really started to clamp down.

Fans that closely followed that team knew we had some really good young talent on that team but we were super young and paper thin.

We had a period of time we were playing iron Man ball. We had dudes practicing at multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Not only did we not have a two deep but whenever we had injuries it was bleek. All the same we had goons & those times are what developed us so quickly.

It's been a few years so I can be off, but to me the massive quality talent transfusion didn't happen until after 1997 season.
That's not to discount Edge, JJ, Morgan, Nate Webster, Santana, Reggie Wayne and a few others, but we were really thin
in numbers due to those horrible sanctions.
Shoot, now that I listed those names, I think it's obvious our '97 was more talented than this Nole team, but we had a massive
gulf between those studs and many of the other starters.
Regardless, nothing but respect to every single member of team, regardless of talent, for sticking it out when times were bad.

For me, no on the Desir twins, yes on Danzy, Deuce and that big RB (Kromah).
