I have a glimmer of hope but not truly excited. Mark is an alum and a good coach, but I would have preferred if Butch was hired. Still, I have hope Mark will win a NC or two here. I hope he has the hunger, the fire and determination to win a NC here.

The fact that he was fired because he didn't do better in the SEC and win NC there after catching for 15 years is the reason why I am not excited.

People may say it's not a big deal. He didn't win NC while in UGA is because it is in the SEC and the SEC is very tough to crack. But by saying this they admit that he wasn't good enough to beat Miles, Saban, etc., the top shelf coaches in the SEC. If you are very good, in a big time program with mega resources but don't win or at least play for NC after 15 years then your qualities as a HC deserve to be questioned.

I am not the only one who is surprised he jumped in a place like Miami immediately after he was fired. As a matter of fact the majority of people who know him thought he would take a little time off from coaching first. After coaching for 15 years in a place like UGA and not meet expectation, then blind sided by being dismissed like that is not easy.

I also feel bad for Butch. I know some here will ridicule me for saying this. But the man badly wanted another chance to win a NC here and correct a mistake he made. He prepared for this job and feels connected to the program and the fans.

Like I said, I like Mark the coach and the man and I hope he has enough hunger and passion to get it done here. Hopeful but not excited.

The fact that he took up on Miami's offer SO **** QUICKLY after he was canned at Georgia - despite what people close to him were saying about him "needing time off" and "refocus and reenergize" - tells me he is hungry. He is going to try and make it clear to UGA why they made a huge fu*king mistake firing him - and he will do it at his alma mater.

No reason to be excited. 14 years, 0 titles, fired. He has a lot to prove. Only dumb cane fans who have been suffering because Miami has been the joke of college football for years get excited when anyone gets hired as the coach. I'm a realist and Richt has to prove himself.

Great post, OP!

I also wanted Butch but l'll take MR over Schiano all day. I hope he gets here and finds his fire again. Either way it's the best hire we've had in 15 years.

There are like 5 active head coaches with NCs. Jimbo, Stoops, Meyer, Saban, and Miles. We weren't getting any therefore all other coaching options have the same 0 NCs.

There was one option who is responsible for 1 of 5 Miami titles and could have been 3 in 2000 and 2002.

Us older SMARTER fans are very happy with the hire as we have seen much worse in the old days

You nailed it, spot on.

I hope you're right. And I hope he his coming home, a walking distance to Coral Gables High and short distance drive to the best HS talent in the country will give us better results than his time in Georgia.

I came wait until Richt smears **** in Georgia and the naysayers face. Biggest hire since schnelly.

A lot of people have this strange belief that UGA is some historical powerhouse of a program. Guess what? They aren't. Their last NC was 35 years ago. Richt owns the best win % in UGA history as HC.

I'm excited, because this is the best hire we've had since Butch. I am also concerned about if Richt has the fire right now. If he does, I'm all aboard.

LMAO...only 3 coaches won more games in the first 15 years than Richt and he is a bad hire? Stop with the he got fired(Pete Carroll, Butch Davis), he didnt win a NC as a HC(Patterson, Kelly and Gundy just to name a few) and do some research since for some apparent reason its not obvious and realize this is a homerun.

I dont knock anybodys opinion but at the same time im like how could somebody not be happy with this hire.

I'm expecting him to be a man of his word and be hands on in QB development and play calling like he said he wants to return to doing - and to do that he'll need a kick *** staff to delegate to. Hope this program once again becomes the talent magnet it should be again, and we just roll.
