The pheggy mods nerfed my ability to rate threads or this one would have 5 stars.

See how them x and o dudes avoid this thread.....this Jj talking but they know more than him.

Miami is a school that does well when it recruits well and it hasn't in alooooooong time.

Did he mention the fact that his play calling and scheme didn't hinder the entire team?

Butch did a lot of recruiting for him - left on Thursdays to go evaluate and recruit.

Of course, Butch also recruited the 2000, 2001, 2002 teams.

Bring Back Butch!

Problem is this dude cant recruit or coach and he doesnt let them boys play..Lose lose lose

Since you can't recruit much at the next level, I don't understand why he'd undermine himself as well as his staff like that.

Still, even coaches say things that make you question what they say. He vocally supported the Shannon and Golden hires.

He's also smart enough to know what he did was new and revolutionary for the time. Things are much different now than then or you'd have MNC's determined on signing day.

JJ was as great of a game day coach and overall football mind as he was a recruiter. Don't let that quote fool you. We just witnessed what happens when you have a talented team led by ****** coaches. Talent is only part of the equation just ask Zook and the gators.

Anyone that believes talent will suffice is an idiot.

Golden CAN recruit. He just can't CLOSE.

Recruiting is getting kids interested ... And he's done that. He sells the parents, hands down!

But Golden fails to CLOSE because he doesn't win enough AND the team has no identity.

Kids want to play for winners, or they want to play for teams that fit their style of play. We don't have a style of play under Golden ...

No identity or style on O or D ...

So, that makes wins and losses all the more important.

Oh ... And Jimmy was an awesome coach!

What he did with that Dallas franchise is a crowning achievement. Taking them from 1-15 to repeat Super Bowl champs! And he would have continued that dynasty if Jerry Jones didn't allow his ego to get in the way.

A few thoughts. First let's understand that Johnson is a certified, legendary boss. In addition, he was an innovator. The blueprint he crafted for recruiting and defense still impacts the game today.

Personally, I think Johnson was being modest with his comments. There is no denying that it takes talent to win games. But that is half the equation. Coaching is the other half.

Johnson, Meyer and Saban represent the best in the business. We are talking legendary status. All three are considered to be true innovators. I've always believe that innovative coaching coupled with outstanding talent equals champion.
