Schemes could we have some of the defensive gurus on the board please list some base defensive philosophies and the differences between them? For example we could start with 4-3 over and the 4-3 under then maybe get into the 4-2-5 etc..... I know that I am fascinated by the subject and would love to have a sticky post with some clarifications on the basic differences between all these defenses. Thanks.

Oh of course those articles would be great reading and I know a simple internet search would provide great information. I was thinking however of having a sticky with some basic information about each variation of the 4-3 and 4-2-5 posted here for easy reference. I love the subject but I'm not an expert and I know we have many posters here who have a ton of knowledge they could share.

Specifically what I had in mind was something like ghost2 wrote for the 3-4 under. That was very valuable to have as a reference tool and a great read as well.

I'd love to do it, i'm a defensive nerd like that. After my savage DC series I'll make a general post on defensive types.

Thank you for volunteering! Based on your savage series I'm sure it will be excellent. Maybe we could get some input from some other defensive junkies like Dynasty, Macho and LuCane as well. Thanks again!

4-2-5 perfect for spread offense.

I agree. I also think that UM should be on the cutting edge of that particular defensive movement. I believe that type of defense is the perfect schematic and philosophical fit for our recruiting base. This is what makes Golden the biggest imbecile on the planet. This guy gets the UM job and he installs a defense completely foreign to the types of players his geographical base supplies him with. Sorry! I just couldn't resist taking one more shot at that fat incompetent clown.

Somewhere in the depths of this board I had a post from a long time ago about the 4-3 Over... I'll try to scare it up.

Found and bumped. I'll try to do something on the 4-3 Cover 2 later.

Your sins are forgiven. Go out and sin no more.

As someone who admittingly isn't as good with the defensive side of football, does anyone have a link where I can learn the basics? Differences between schemes, types of play calls, etc?
