all of which are totally justified IMO, here is the thing not to lose sight of:

An excerpt from an interview of Blake James, posted by CaneInTheBrain a few days ago
Then the ************ goes on to gloat about mooching off the ACC...

Q: UM isn’t likely to discuss what you receive... but there was a story last week that said the ACC pool was going to be $90-95 million ....How is it nice that all of a sudden these coffers are going to be a lot more filled really quickly?

"It’s a huge win for our institution and for our program. It’s the guarantee of knowing that revenue is going to come every year. So when I’m doing my budget – and I’m doing it right now – I look out for the next 10 years and know what revenues are going to be coming in for the most part through the agreements we have in place. (goes on and on gloating about this) "

That's barely even a code. He's saying they don't give a **** about winning. It isn't important. Why try when you get paid anyway. One of they worst things to happen to us as fans is UM joining the ACC.

I have to go vomit now.

This is perhaps the stupidest thing to complain about. Seems to come up every few months.

Serious question--do you know anything about business? Would you prefer a guaranteed payout each year, or a feast-or-famine situation in which you're never certain of your future, you can't plan for long-term goals, etc.

Folks want a a big-name coach, new facilities, maybe an actual home stadium one day. None of that **** happens without money. Money that comes from big fat deals with the ACC and Adidas and the like.

Nothing stupid about it. From a business standpoint it's great. From a fan's viewpoint it guarantees mediocrity. There is no incentive to improve the product.

caneinheelcountry is right, you guys are morons. The idea of leaving the big east was the school was too small to only bet on winning, (their was no revenue sharing).

BS.

FSU, Clemson, and everyone in the ACC or any big 5 conference gets guaranteed money. Doesn't stop people from trying to win.

I get that folks are frustrated. I get that UM has made some stupid decisions recently, particularly WRT not letting Golden go sooner. But it's just stupid to complain about the fact that UM has put itself on good financial footing for perhaps the first time ever. Things will get better.

Then be happy with 6-7, because there is no reason to try harder.

Its okay though because once every 7 years, there will be some small and mundane athletic upgrade that will be made into some sort of huge deal throughout the offices.

scratch that, might have to be every 12 years because blake James and company are probably gonna put another 500 million dollars into renovating a leased stadium. As long as we here at the university of miami are winning in the game of life, then numbers and championships in the game of football are inconsiquential

Difference is that schools like FSU , Clemson and other P5 teams have people in office that actually care more than a conference paycheck. AKA there are schools that weren't plagued by a clintonite like shalala for over a decade, won't be long til shirtless selfie frenk is continuing the same tradition of burying miami football

Well, in most division 1 programs (that aren't ran by self serving politicians that want to be surrounded by yes men and people who can con others into donations for nothing in return) how it works is that there will usually be a president. This president will then mold a B.O.T. committee, which will work with said president and hire an athletic director, who will then hire a head coach, who will then hire coordinators and position coaches.

Incorrect.

The BOT are the folks who hunt for, interview, and pick a president based on the direction the BOT wants to go. The BOT can and does choose to fire a president if they feel the need.

The BOT also has a big say in choosing a coach and an AD, and generally influences the president's decision on these matters. If you've followed the past UM coaching searches, you know this.

All of this is irrelevant, though. My overall point is that the political bent of the university president has little to do with whether or not the football team wins. Tad Foote was an elitist Democrat who hated the football team, and we still won under his presidency. UF has had a succession of fairly left presidents, and they seem to do OK on the gridiron (with the exception of the recent Muschamp years). The U of Michigan had a lefty female in office when they went after Harbaugh, who looks to turn them around.

It doesn't guarantee mediocrity.
It guarantees mediocrity if the admin is content with only the ACC money.
No incentive?
I can't see how they wouldn't want an extra 15-20k fans in the seats ( x6 games x$75) and all the schwag sales that go along with winning.

That's the whole point. I think they are. Others disagree. So far, I see no commitment to making the effort to do better. Coker, Shannon, Golden.

I sure miss the independent football powerhouse days....and the days of the BIG EAST that followed. We seemed to have punished ourselves joining this basketball conference. We were one of the first and received hella flack for abandoning the big east.
